Welcome to another Wednesday here as August winds down and September approaches. All 30 teams are on the slate for today, with a quartet of afternoon games among today’s action. Let’s dive right into Wednesday’s MLB picks for August 21.

MLB Wednesday predictions

Gavin Lux Over 1.5 Total Bases (+145)

Chicago White Sox vs San Francisco Giants - Under 7.5 Runs (-105)

Logan Webb Under 6.5 Hits Allowed (-150)

MLB Wednesday Picks: Gavin Lux Over 1.5 Total Bases (+145)

We’ll begin our MLB picks for Wednesday by backing Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux for tonight’s game against the Seattle Mariners. With hits in six of his last seven games and multi-hit games in three of Lux’s previous five games, he’s been a proven, consistent producer since climbing into the fifth spot of a potent Dodgers lineup. Lux has been incredibly hot in his last seven games, going 10-for-26 with three home runs and three doubles.

The Dodgers have desperately needed production in the middle and bottom of their lineup, and at least in the interim, Lux has given them that and then some lately. Taking Gavin Lux Over 1.5 Total Bases (+145) feels good, considering Lux has hit this mark in six of his last seven games.

MLB Wednesday Picks: Chicago White Sox vs San Francisco Giants Under 7.5 Runs (-105)

The next contest we’ll target for Wednesday’s MLB picks is a matchup in the Bay Area as the San Francisco Giants host the basement-dwelling Chicago White Sox and Oracle Park. Taking the bump for the White Sox is the lefty Garrett Crochet, who has been Chicago’s best pitcher this season now that Erick Fedde was traded to the Cardinals. Opposing Crochet will be Logan Webb, who has been his usual awesome self in 2024, sporting a 3.17 ERA and a 0.89 ERA in August.

While it would be easy to look at the win/loss records for both clubs — especially for the White Sox — and chalk up a win for the home team Giants, Crochet has been stellar lately outside of a horrible game against the cross-town rival Cubs where he gave up seven earned and couldn’t get through the third inning. With Webb also dealing this month and at home in a predominately pitcher’s park, we’re very confident in taking White Sox vs. Giants Under 7.5 Runs (-105) for this afternoon’s game.

MLB Wednesday Picks: Logan Webb Under 6.5 Hits Allowed (-150)

Our final MLB best bet for Wednesday stays right in the previous game with the aforementioned Webb against the lowly White Sox. How good has Webb been in the last four starts? Well, considering the 6.5 hits allowed prop, Webb has given up four, four, four, and five hits in each of his last four games. Now, he gets the worst team in baseball at home. Home, mind you, where Webb sports a minuscule 2.26 ERA in 12 starts.

If the Giants want to stay alive in the wild card race, they need these games against competition they should beat with only a month and change left in the season. We’ll take that pitching consistency against an inferior opponent and lock in Logan Webb Under 6.5 Hits Allowed (-150) today at home against the White Sox.
