Kansas took its first legal online sports bets on September 1, 2022. The licenses belong to the four state-owned casinos, and nearly every app here is tied to one of them: FanDuel to Kansas Star in Mulvane, DraftKings to Boot Hill in Dodge City, and BetMGM and Fanatics to Kansas Crossing in Pittsburg.

Below is our list of the best Kansas apps, followed by a closer look at each one we recommend. After that come the rules on age and where you can bet, how Kansas taxes winnings, and the questions we hear most.

Offers checked November 4, 2026. Terms apply to every offer, so read them on the operator's site before you sign up.

Sports betting law in Kansas

Governor Laura Kelly signed SB 84 in 2022, and it took effect on July 1. The law hands sports betting to the four casinos the state owns through the Kansas Lottery: Boot Hill, Kansas Star, Kansas Crossing and Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway. Each casino can host up to three online sportsbooks, and a pro team such as Sporting Kansas City can add another through a casino partner.

Six apps went live on September 1, 2022, in a soft launch a week before the official start on September 8. Fanatics joined in 2024 and bet365 in 2025. In 2023 lawmakers also opened the door for the state's tribes to offer online betting under their compacts.

Kansas teams to bet on

Sporting Kansas City is the only major-league team based in Kansas, but the Kansas City teams across the state line have as many fans here as anywhere.

  • Sporting Kansas City (MLS): Play at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, and have won two MLS Cups.
  • Kansas City Chiefs (NFL): Still play at Arrowhead in Missouri, but Kansas has approved STAR bonds toward a planned domed stadium in Wyandotte County, and the bond district was set in October 2026.
  • Kansas City Royals (MLB): Won the World Series in 2015.
  • Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats (college): Both play in the Big 12, and in-state college games are fully on the board.
  • Wichita State Shockers (college): Play in the American Athletic Conference and have a long NCAA Tournament history.
  • Kansas Speedway: Hosts two NASCAR Cup Series races a year, including a playoff race.

Responsible gambling in Kansas

Set a budget before you bet and use the deposit, wager and time limits every licensed app offers. If betting stops being fun, the Kansas Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-522-4700 is free and confidential, and it can refer you to counseling near home. The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission runs a statewide Sports Wagering Exclusion Program that bars you from Kansas sportsbooks, alongside its casino exclusion program. The national helpline, 1-800-GAMBLER, also takes calls from Kansas.

FAQs

Is online sports betting legal in Kansas?

Yes. Online betting started on September 1, 2022, through the state's four casinos. Seven online sportsbooks are live.

How old do you have to be to bet on sports in Kansas?

You must be 21. Pick'em and prediction apps set their own minimum ages and check them at sign-up.

Which Kansas sportsbook should I download first?

For most people in Kansas we would start with FanDuel, which has the simplest app and strong same game parlays. DraftKings is close behind if you like odds boosts and live betting.

Can you bet on the Jayhawks and Wildcats?

Yes. Kansas allows betting on college sports, in-state schools included, so Kansas, Kansas State and Wichita State games are all on the board.

Do you pay tax on sports betting winnings in Kansas?

Yes. Winnings are taxable income for federal and state purposes. Kansas taxes income at 5.2% or 5.58% depending on how much you earn, and sportsbooks send a W-2G for larger wins.

Can I bet in Kansas if I live in Missouri?

Yes, as long as you are inside Kansas when you place the bet. The app checks where you are every time, so a bet placed from the Missouri side of Kansas City falls under Missouri's rules instead.
