Guardians vs. White Sox Prediction, MLB ALDS Game 4 Odds & Best Bets (10/8)

Fact checked at 6:46 AM ET, Oct 8, 2026
Odds as of Oct 8, 3:42 AM ET; Pick #2 price as of 4:39 AM ET
Cleveland beat Chicago 9-3 in Game 3 on Wednesday to stay alive, and the White Sox now lead this best-of-five American League Division Series 2-1. Game 4 is at 8:00 PM ET at Rate Field in Chicago, on TBS, truTV and HBO Max. Chicago wins and it's on to the ALCS. Cleveland wins and we get a Game 5 in Cleveland on Saturday.
Cleveland has the pitching edge going in. Parker Messick takes the ball on normal rest after a regular season of a 2.56 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and 193 strikeouts in 186 1/3 innings across 32 starts. Chicago is opening with left-hander Hagen Smith, who threw 21 pitches in Game 3, and will lean on a bullpen that walked 10 Guardians on Wednesday to get the rest of the outs. Grant Taylor, Jordan Hicks and Erick Fedde are all rested, and Taylor could go several innings.
The consensus line is Cleveland -118 and Chicago -100, total 7.5 (Over +101, Under -120). Cleveland has drawn 57% of the moneyline money on 45% of the bets. Lineups are not out yet. Expect mid-60s at first pitch, light wind and almost no chance of rain.
We think Messick carves up a strikeout-heavy White Sox lineup and Cleveland forces Game 5. All three picks cash in that game.
Guardians vs. White Sox Predictions
- Pick #1: Guardians Moneyline (-118)
- Pick #2: Parker Messick Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-154)
- Pick #3: White Sox Team Total Under 3.5 Runs (-125)
PICK #1: Guardians Moneyline (-118)
This is Cleveland's best starter against a team stitching nine innings together from relievers. Messick has also liked this mound: a 2.45 ERA with 18 strikeouts and two walks in 14 2/3 innings at Rate Field this season, including a 10-strikeout, 7 2/3-inning outing on June 23. Smith carries a 1.29 ERA over 28 regular-season innings, but he's an opener working back-to-back days, so he won't be out there long. Behind him is a staff that walked 10 in Game 3, and five of those runners scored.
Cleveland's arms, on the other hand, struck out 19 White Sox on Wednesday, a postseason record for a nine-inning game. Closer Cade Smith needed just 19 pitches for his two innings.
A price of -118 works out to a 54.1% implied chance. For the team with the clearly better starter in a must-win game, that's a fair number to back.
Game 1 is the worry. Messick didn't make it through five innings that day, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings and 87 pitches in a 3-0 loss. Chicago has already seen him five times this year. Taylor closed out that Game 1 with four scoreless innings and hasn't pitched since Monday, and Hicks and Fedde are fresh too. And over the regular season, Chicago's offense outscored Cleveland's, 776 runs to 678. Even in Messick's five starts against Chicago this year, Cleveland went 2-3, scoring one run or fewer three times.
PICK #2: Parker Messick Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-154)
The White Sox swing and miss a lot. They struck out 1,494 times in the regular season, fifth-most in the majors, and they've struck out 42 times in three games in this series: 10, then 13, then 19.
Messick has fed on that. He reached six strikeouts in four of his five starts against Chicago this year, going 10, 3, 8 and 8 in the regular season and six in Game 1, for 35 strikeouts in 30 innings against this lineup. Across the whole regular season he got to six in 18 of 32 starts, and one of the misses was a three-inning tune-up in the final week.
His season rate alone doesn't justify -154, which implies 60.6%. The opponent does. The line has also kept moving toward the Over since this price went up.
What beats this bet is a short outing. Cleveland will pull Messick quickly in an elimination game if he struggles, and he needed 87 pitches for 13 outs in Game 1. A couple of early walks could end his night before he gets to six. If your book has already moved the line to 6.5, there's less to like.
PICK #3: White Sox Team Total Under 3.5 Runs (-125)
Chicago hasn't solved Messick this year. In his five starts against the White Sox, they scored 2, 3, 2, 3 and 3 runs, so this Under would have cashed every time. He closed the regular season with 15 straight starts of three runs or fewer allowed, then gave up two in Game 1.
The bullpen behind him helps too. After Daniel Espino's opening two outs in Game 3, Cleveland's pitchers held Chicago to two runs over the final 8 1/3 innings, and the White Sox have scored 3, 4 and 3 in this series.
At -125 you're paying for a 55.6% chance. Chicago's offense is the danger: it scored 776 runs in the regular season, 4.8 a game, and drew four walks in each of the first two games of this series. If Messick leaves early, Cleveland's relievers have to cover most of the game.
