The superstars have come out to play so far at the major championships in 2025. Will the story continue at this week’s US Open, or is a surprise in the cards?

Rory McIlroy triumphed at the Masters to complete his elusive career Grand Slam before Scottie Scheffler lifted the PGA Championship trophy. Augusta National and Quail Hollow provided plenty of entertainment at those two respective tournaments, but Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is an entirely different test of golf. In fact, it is arguably the most difficult course in the entire world. Fasten your seatbelts, folks; this week could be fun.

Let’s break down the odds and the best bets to make for the 2025 US Open.

US Open odds

Unsurprisingly, Scheffler is a massive favorite to win his first US Open. It would be his second major title in a row, his fourth overall and it would give him a chance to complete the career slam at next month’s British Open. Of course, that’s not to say that the 28-year-old American will be without any competition at Oakmont. McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg could be among the contenders.

Here is the short list of favorites:

Scottie Scheffler +275

Bryson DeChambeau +750

Jon Rahm +1200

Rory McIlroy +1200

Xander Schauffele +2200

Collin Morikawa +2500

Joaquin Niemann +3000

Ludvig Aberg +3000

Tommy Fleetwood +3500

Justin Thomas +4000

US Open Predictions

Pick #1: Bryson DeChambeau to win the US Open (+750)

Pick #2: Xander Schauffele to win the US Open (+2200)

Pick #3: Tommy Fleetwood to finish top 10 at the US Open (+260)

PICK #1: Bryson DeChambeau to win the US Open (+750)

Obviously everyone on the planet would pick Scheffler to win without taking the odds into account, but the world No. 1 does not have any value at minuscule +275 odds. Instead, DeChambeau looks like a better choice. The 31-year-old American has placed in the top five in each of the first two majors this season and he has been top six in five of the last six dating back to last year’s Masters.

DeChambeau is also a two-time US Open champion, having triumphed in 2020 and 2024. Although finding fairways is paramount at this national championship, it may not matter too much if DeChambeau bashes it so far that he is using very short irons out of the rough. He can win this tournament his own way – as he has done before.

PICK #2: Xander Schauffele to win the US Open (+2200)

Xander Schauffele started the season on the sidelines due to injury and he hasn’t quite kicked into high gear at this point, but this could be the week when it all turns around. Like DeChambeau, Schauffele is a whole different beast at the biggest events. The third-ranked American won two majors last year (PGA Championship, British Open), has an amazing 16 top-10 finishes at majors in his career and won gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Schauffele was T8 at the Masters and has two other top-11 performances this spring, so he is trending in the right direction.

PICK #3: Tommy Fleetwood to finish top 10 at the US Open (+260)

Tommy Fleetwood is a prototypical US Open player, as he can hit fairways and greens in his sleep. He has finished in the top five of this event three times. Dating back to the Paris Olympics last summer, Fleetwood has been in the top 22 of 20 starts. This guy is a consistency machine. It’s hard to justify backing the 34-year-old Englishman to win since he has never won on the PGA Tour, but at the same time, it seems likely that he will contend. Fleetwood at +550 to place in the top five also has intriguing value.
