Texas A&M vs LSU Best Picks 10/25

Saturday night in Baton Rouge; it doesn’t get much bigger than this. The No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies (7-0, 4-0) roll into Tiger Stadium for a primetime clash with the No. 20 LSU Tigers (5-2, 2-2). The Aggies are one of college football’s few remaining unbeatens and are pushing for a College Football Playoff berth, while LSU continues to search for a season-defining upset at home under the lights.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM ET on ABC, and the matchup features Texas A&M’s explosive, high-tempo offense versus LSU’s physical, defensive-minded approach. The key question becomes “can LSU’s defense slow down the Aggies’ fireworks long enough to pull off the upset?”

Below are our top betting picks and predictions for this SEC showdown.

Texas A&M vs LSU Predictions

Pick #1: LSU Tigers ML over Texas A&M Aggies (+125)

Pick #2: Over 47.5 (-114)

Pick #3: Garrett Nussmeier Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-110)

Pick #1: LSU ML over Texas A&M (+125)

It’s no secret that Death Valley at night is one of the toughest environments in college football. LSU enters this game 5-2 overall, and while their offense has been extremely disappointing, Garrett Nussmeier has quietly begun to find his rhythm since the bye week. He’s thrown for 225+ yards and multiple touchdowns in back-to-back games, despite heavy pressure behind an worrisome offensive line.

Texas A&M, on the other hand, has shown cracks on the road. Yes, the Aggies are 7–0, but they’ve needed late-game magic to escape high-scoring shootouts, including a 41-40 win at Notre Dame and a 45-42 win at Arkansas. Their defense, ranked 37th nationally (327.7 YPG), is more susceptible to big plays outside of College Station.

Meanwhile, LSU’s defense has been the stabilizer, ranking 9th nationally in scoring (14.6 PPG allowed) and 26th overall in total defense. With one of the best secondaries in the SEC and a home-field advantage few can match, the Tigers are well-positioned to hand the Aggies their first loss of the season.

LSU’s defense will have to create chaos and confuse A&M QB Marcel Reed into uncomfortable throws, and for Nussmeier to deliver his best game of the year against a vulnerable A&M secondary. If LSU loses, they go into Bama next week and will stare down a four-game losing streak. I just don’t see it. The pick: LSU in an upset, 31–27.

Pick #2: Over 47.5 (-114)

This matchup features two teams on opposite ends of the over/under spectrum. Texas A&M has been an over machine this year, as 5 of its 7 games have gone over the total, with two surpassing 80 combined points. LSU, meanwhile, has leaned heavily under, with 6 of 7 games failing to surpass the posted total before last week’s 31-24 loss at Vanderbilt finally hit the over.

The ingredients for a higher-scoring game are all here. The Aggies rank 17th in total offense (464 YPG) and 27th in scoring (36.1 PPG), led by Reed’s dynamic dual-threat skill set and a balanced attack featuring Rueben Owens (396 rushing yards, 3 TDs) and Mario Craver (668 receiving yards, 4 TDs).

LSU’s offense, while not prolific, has improved since the bye week. Nussmeier’s confidence grows as he continues to get healthier, and the Aggies’ defense, particularly their 127th-ranked red-zone unit, has been soft in key moments. If LSU can sustain drives and finish in the red zone, they’ll hold up their end of the scoring.

On the flip side, Reed’s mobility could give LSU’s defense trouble. Last week, Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns against the Tigers, and Reed is capable of similar damage. With both offenses capable of explosive plays and both defenses showing fatigue in recent weeks, this number feels a touch too low.

Pick #3: Garrett Nussmeier Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-110)

If LSU is going to pull off the upset, it’ll be because Garrett Nussmeier finally has his breakout performance. The junior quarterback entered the season with first-round hype and is beginning to show why, posting an efficient 66.4% completion rate with 11 touchdowns to 5 interceptions.

A&M’s secondary has given up five passing touchdowns in their last two games and allowed Utah State to throw for two back in Week 2. Their struggles intensify on the road, where blown coverages and poor tackling have turned modest offenses into highlight reels.

Nussmeier’s chemistry with Aaron Anderson and Zavion Thomas continues to develop, and his pocket composure has improved against pressure. If LSU can avoid long third downs and protect just enough to let routes develop, Nussmeier should find opportunities to strike, particularly off play-action against A&M’s aggressive front.

Expect him to connect for at least two scores, especially if LSU plays from behind or trades points in a high-energy environment.
