The Heat (2-5) visit the Clippers (1-6) at Intuit Dome for a 10:30 PM ET tip. Miami's defense keeps leaking, and we think the Clippers' two defensive starters, Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr., have the minutes to fill out their lines against it. At the other end, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo hoover up Miami's rebounds, which leaves very little for Andrew Wiggins. So we're on Dunn and Jones over, and Wiggins under on the boards.

Miami allows 123.9 points a game, 27th in the league, and gave up 138 in a 21-point loss to the Lakers in its last game. The Clippers have lost six straight and are without Bradley Beal, Brandon Ingram, Jordan Miller and Yanic Konan Niederhauser. Rui Hachimura (quad) and Jones (right knee) both sat the 125-118 loss to Toronto and are off the injury report for this one. Antetokounmpo is probable with a right wrist sprain. Miami is laying 5.5, with 78% of the spread money on the Heat. Starting lineups are projected.

Heat vs. Clippers Predictions

  • Pick #1: Kris Dunn Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists (-115)
  • Pick #2: Derrick Jones Jr. Over 14.5 Points + Rebounds (-123)
  • Pick #3: Andrew Wiggins Under 3.5 Rebounds (+105)

PICK #1: Kris Dunn Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists (-115)

Dunn has cleared 16.5 in six of seven games this season: 19, 17, 25, 11, 17, 18 and 17. He has started all seven with Beal and Ingram out, playing 27 to 34 minutes, and he averages 9.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists while usually guarding the other team's lead ball-handler. The miss was the 103-87 home loss to the Lakers, when the whole offense stalled.

Tonight's projected lineup is the one that suits him. In the three games Darius Garland, Dunn, Hachimura, Jones and Isaiah Jackson all started, Dunn put up 25, 17 and 18.

We'll admit the cushion is thin, since three of those six overs landed on exactly 17, and -115 implies 53.5%. Max Strus played 23 minutes in his season debut against Toronto, so Ty Lue has another body to play, and a Miami runaway in the fourth would cost Dunn minutes.

PICK #2: Derrick Jones Jr. Over 14.5 Points + Rebounds (-123)

Jones has gone over 14.5 in four of six games, with points plus rebounds of 14, 20, 17, 20, 11 and 16. He has started every game at small forward, played 26 to 35 minutes and averages 11.5 points and 4.8 rebounds while drawing the toughest wing assignment. Even the night he left early at Golden State, he had 9 points and 7 rebounds in 28 minutes.

Six games is a short record, and the shooting will cool: he has made 13 of 25 threes. Still, a defense allowing 123.9 a game gives the scoring half room, and he rebounds steadily enough to cover a quiet shooting night.

At -123, the implied chance is 55.2%, and the knee is the concern. He bumped it in the third quarter at Golden State and sat the next game, and he is off the report now. If he plays limited minutes, the over gets hard.

PICK #3: Andrew Wiggins Under 3.5 Rebounds (+105)

Wiggins has three or fewer rebounds in six of seven games, averaging 2.6. His totals: 2, 8, 1, 3, 2, 2 and 0, including 3 in 34 minutes against Dallas and none in the loss to the Lakers. Antetokounmpo has 12 or more rebounds in four of his last five games, and Adebayo grabbed 8 or 9 in each of them. Erik Spoelstra has described Wiggins' job next to them as a wing who can go get a shot or play off the ball.

If the Clippers hit shots against this defense, as the first two picks expect, Miami has even fewer misses to chase.

Getting plus money on a six-of-seven run is the appeal; +105 implies 48.8%. The 8-rebound night against Detroit shows the outlier exists, and seven games doesn't prove much. If Antetokounmpo's wrist keeps him out or sends him to the bench early, Wiggins has more boards to chase.
