Oklahoma vs Ole Miss picks - October 26
The Oklahoma Sooners and Ole Miss Rebels will meet for an SEC tilt on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The kickoff in Oxford is set for 12:00 PM ET, with the game broadcast live on ESPN. This clash features a couple of teams looking to return to form after some difficult losses suffered in the last few weeks.
With both looking to make a statement and halt the negative momentum around their respective programs, let’s dive into our expert’s predictions and best bets for this SEC showdown.
Oklahoma vs Ole Miss Predictions
Pick #1: Ole Miss Rebels -20 over Oklahoma Sooners (-110)
Pick #2: Under 50 (-110)
Pick #3: Tre Harris anytime touchdown scorer (-125)
Pick #1: Ole Miss -20 over Oklahoma (-110)
Ole Miss started the season with high expectations and spent the first couple of weeks rolling over teams en route to holding the top-ranked offense in the country. However, after a home loss to Kentucky where they only scored 17 points, this once high-flying offense has slowed down. The Rebels have averaged only 23 points and 414 yards per game since starting SEC play, and while those yardage numbers are respectable, it's hard to win games by moving the ball downfield and not scoring in the red zone.
Fortunately for Ole Miss, this Oklahoma team can’t score at all. The Sooners’ offense has been a major issue this season, averaging just over 24 points and 287 yards per game, which ranks 127th nationally. Defensively, both of these teams are strong, with Ole Miss ranked third nationally and Oklahoma ranked 28th. However, this Oklahoma offense can’t score on bad defenses, much less on one of the best units in the country.
The Rebels' offense may have slowed down in recent weeks, but this is still a team that has the second-best offense in the country by yards per game, and if they figure out how to finish those drives and score like they did early in the season, the Sooners are in real trouble.
Pick #2: Under 50 (-110)
The projected total suggests that points could come at a premium, and it’s easy to see why. On one hand, Oklahoma should look to limit the amount of possessions that Ole Miss gets in this game, and it’s hard to imagine that Lane Kiffin’s offense will expand the playbook against a team that has trouble scoring.
While Ole Miss should still get its points in this game, the concern should be with Oklahoma, as the Sooners’ offense has been putrid this season, ranking outside the top 100 in success rate and points per drive. That doesn’t bode well against a Rebels defense that is supremely talented up front and can get after the quarterback.
If Ole Miss is able to establish a dominant lead by halftime — which this three-touchdown spread would suggest — then we should see the Rebels coast to a victory and take their foot off the gas just a bit in the second half. Therefore, the under has value at the current number.
Pick #3: Tre Harris anytime touchdown scorer (-125)
For our final pick on this game, let’s go with Ole Miss wideout Tre Harris to find the end zone. The top target on this Rebels team, Harris is one of the best wide receivers in college football, and his numbers this season reflect that. The senior has racked up nearly 1,000 receiving yards and six touchdowns through the first seven games of the campaign, and that should continue against a banged-up Oklahoma secondary on Saturday. Jaxson Dart often looks for Harris on deep shots and in the red zone, so the number of targets also shouldn’t be an issue in this one.
