Maine Betting Sites, Apps & Guide

Online sports betting went live in Maine on November 3, 2023. The state gave its online licenses only to Maine's four federally recognized tribes, and each tribe could bring in one sportsbook partner. Two brands took those deals, so Maine has two sportsbook apps, and DraftKings, partnered with the Passamaquoddy Tribe, is the one we recommend.

Below is our list of the best Maine apps, followed by a closer look at each one we recommend. The rest covers the age rule, why Maine college teams are off the board, how the state taxes winnings and the questions people ask us most.

Offers checked November 4, 2026. Terms apply to every offer, so read them on the operator's site before you sign up.

Maine app reviews

There's a card for every app in the list, with the offer we checked, what it does best and how it works in Maine.

1. DraftKings

DraftKings said at first that it would skip Maine, then took the last online license available through a partnership with the Passamaquoddy Tribe and launched on the market's first day. It also holds a Maine fantasy contest license, so the same account covers both.

Live betting is where the app is strongest, and the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins get deep prop menus. Every bet counts toward Dynasty Rewards.

2. Dabble

Dabble built its pick'em game around a social feed: you can copy any public entry with one tap and talk through the game in live Banter rooms. Maine's Gambling Control Unit lists Dabble Sports LLC as a licensed fantasy contest operator, and Dabble's state page shows Maine contests as peer-to-peer.

3. FanDuel Predicts

FanDuel Predicts is FanDuel's prediction market, built with CME Group, where you buy Yes or No contracts priced from 1 to 99 cents. In Maine it carries finance, crypto and other event markets but no sports, and it is open to adults 18 and over.

4. Fanatics Markets

Fanatics Markets is the Fanatics prediction market, run on a CFTC-registered exchange, with contracts that can cover sports, finance, economics and politics. Fanatics launched it in December 2025 in states where it had no sportsbook, and Maine is one of them, so check the app for which markets are open here.

  • Welcome offer: Open Fanatics Markets
  • Best for: Event contracts from the Fanatics brand
  • Apps: iOS and Android

5. Underdog

Underdog's app holds fantasy games, Rips card packs and Underdog Exchange, its own CFTC-regulated sports market. Underdog is not on Maine's list of licensed fantasy operators, and here it is listed for its prediction picks, which fall under federal rules.

Trading involves risk, including total loss on positions

6. Kalshi

Kalshi charges no vig and lists far more than sports: Fed decisions, inflation prints and weather all trade next to the games. Maine has taken no action against prediction markets, and Kalshi accounts open at 18, while the state's sportsbooks require you to be 21.

Read our full Kalshi review, or claim the offer here.

7. Polymarket US

Polymarket US is a CFTC-regulated exchange where Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots markets sit next to politics, crypto and culture. Makers earn a rebate on filled limit orders, and Maine has not acted against prediction markets.

18+ Only. Restrictions and eligibility requirements apply. Not available in all jurisdictions. Trading is risky. 100% loss can occur. See polymarket.com/tos for more information. The Polymarket US App serves as an independent software provider and affiliate of Polymarket US and Polymarket Clearing, the CFTC-regulated exchange and clearing organization.

8. Novig

Novig trades only sports, with commission-free pregame straight trades and live in-game trading against other users. Its availability page covers every state except Arizona, Nevada and Michigan, and Maine has no prediction-market enforcement on record.

Read our full Novig review, or claim the offer here.

9. ProphetX

ProphetX is a peer-to-peer sports exchange with its own CFTC-approved clearing house, a 2% commission on net winnings and no limits on winning players. Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins games are on the board, and Maine has taken no action against ProphetX.

10. ReBet

ReBet is a free-to-play social sportsbook where you post picks, follow other players and copy a parlay with one tap, using ReBet Coins for fun and ReBet Cash for prize play. Its official rules still include Maine, but Maine banned sweepstakes casino games in July 2026 (LD 2007), so check which parts of the app are open before you buy coins.

Sports betting law in Maine

Maine legalized sports betting with LD 585 in 2022, after more than two years of back and forth between lawmakers and Governor Janet Mills. The law took effect on August 2, 2022 and put the Gambling Control Unit, part of the Department of Public Safety, in charge.

Online licenses went only to the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Houlton Band of Maliseet and Mi'kmaq tribes, each allowed one sportsbook partner. Three of those partnerships went to one operator and the fourth to DraftKings, which is why Maine has two apps instead of four. Casinos, racetracks and off-track betting sites can apply for retail licenses, and Oxford Casino Hotel holds one. Online betting started on November 3, 2023.

Maine teams to bet on

Maine has no team in the four big leagues, so most bettors here follow the Boston clubs, plus a few minor league and college teams closer to home.

  • New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins: The local favorites. The Celtics won the NBA title in 2024.
  • Maine Celtics (NBA G League): The Boston Celtics' development team, based in Portland.
  • Portland Sea Dogs (minor league baseball): The Red Sox Double-A affiliate.
  • Maine Mariners (ECHL): Minor league hockey in Portland.
  • Maine Black Bears (college): UMaine plays Division I hockey in Hockey East. Maine law doesn't allow bets on Maine college teams, so you won't find their games in the app.

Responsible gambling in Maine

Set a budget before you bet and use the deposit, wager and time limits in your account. If gambling stops being fun, Maine's problem gambling services are free and confidential: call 211, or text your zip code to 898-211, to reach 211 Maine and find help near you. The Gambling Control Unit keeps a self-exclusion list that bars you from licensed gambling in Maine for the period you choose. The national helpline, 1-800-GAMBLER, is open around the clock.

FAQs

Is online sports betting legal in Maine?

Yes. Online and retail sports betting are legal and regulated by the Maine Gambling Control Unit. Online betting started on November 3, 2023, and two sportsbook apps are live.

How old do you have to be to bet on sports in Maine?

You must be 21. Pick'em and prediction apps set their own ages, usually 18 or 21, and check it when you sign up.

Why are there only two sportsbooks in Maine?

Only Maine's four tribes can hold online licenses, and each can partner with one sportsbook. One operator signed with three tribes and DraftKings signed with the Passamaquoddy, so two brands cover all four licenses.

Can you bet on college sports in Maine?

Yes, but not on Maine college teams. You can bet on a tournament that includes a Maine school, just not on games that school plays in.

Do you pay tax on sports betting winnings in Maine?

Yes. Winnings are taxable income for federal and state purposes. Maine taxes income at 5.8%, 6.75% or 7.15% depending on your bracket, with an extra 2% on income over $1 million from 2026. Sportsbooks send a W-2G for larger wins.

Can visitors bet in Maine?

Yes. You don't need to live in Maine, only to be inside the state when you bet. The app checks your location before every bet.

Persons under 21 years of age may not participate in sports wagering. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER.
