Louisiana legalized sports betting one parish at a time. In November 2020, 55 of the 64 parishes voted yes, and online betting started in January 2022. In the nine parishes that voted no, the apps will not take your bet.

Below is our list of the best Louisiana apps, followed by a closer look at each one we recommend. After that we cover the parish map, the age rules, how Louisiana taxes winnings and the questions we hear most.

Offers checked November 4, 2026. Terms apply to every offer, so read them on the operator's site before you sign up.

Louisiana app reviews

Below is a card for every app in the list, with the offer we checked, what each one does best and how it runs in Louisiana.

1. FanDuel

FanDuel came to Louisiana through Boyd Gaming and runs retail sportsbooks at five Boyd properties, including Delta Downs, Evangeline Downs and Treasure Chest in Kenner. The app is the easiest of the group to use.

Same game parlays take seconds to build, which suits a state where parlays make up a big share of the action.

2. DraftKings

DraftKings has taken online bets in Louisiana since 2022 and has retail sportsbooks at Golden Nugget Lake Charles and The Queen in Baton Rouge.

Daily odds boosts and betting pools are its strengths, and every bet earns Dynasty Rewards credit.

3. BetMGM

4. Fanatics

Fanatics went live in Louisiana on August 20, 2024, just before football season. Every bet earns FanCash, which you can spend on Saints or LSU gear or turn back into bets.

5. bet365

bet365 launched in Louisiana on November 21, 2023, licensed through Amelia Belle Casino. It is one of the largest sportsbooks in the world and at its best in live betting.

6. theScore Bet

PENN Entertainment's sportsbook runs in Louisiana alongside its retail sportsbooks at the Boomtown and L'Auberge casinos. It was ESPN BET until December 1, 2025.

Read our full theScore Bet review, or claim the offer here.

7. Underdog

Underdog started as a Best Ball and pick'em app in 2020 and now runs its own CFTC-regulated sports exchange, Underdog Exchange. Its eligibility page lists Louisiana as a Prediction Picks state, so the pick'em and Best Ball contests are not open here.

Trading involves risk, including total loss on positions

8. Kalshi

Kalshi has been regulated by the CFTC since 2020 and lists Yes and No contracts on games, the economy, weather and more, with limit orders at the price you choose. The Louisiana Gaming Control Board said in December 2025 that sports prediction markets are illegal wagering, and in October 2026 Kalshi sued the attorney general and the board in federal court; the app stays open while that case runs.

Read our full Kalshi review, or claim the offer here.

9. Polymarket US

Polymarket US is a CFTC-regulated exchange covering sports, politics, economics, crypto and weather, with in-play trading during games. After the state gaming board called sports prediction markets illegal betting, Polymarket US filed its own federal suit against Louisiana in October 2026 and keeps trading here for now.

18+ Only. Restrictions and eligibility requirements apply. Not available in all jurisdictions. Trading is risky. 100% loss can occur. See polymarket.com/tos for more information. The Polymarket US App serves as an independent software provider and affiliate of Polymarket US and Polymarket Clearing, the CFTC-regulated exchange and clearing organization.

10. Novig

Novig is a sports-only exchange: you trade Yes and No contracts with other users, set your own price with Make orders and can cash out hedged positions early. The gaming board's December 2025 advisory treats sports prediction markets as illegal wagering, but no state order has stopped Novig in Louisiana.

Read our full Novig review, or claim the offer here.

11. ProphetX

ProphetX lets you back or lay sports contracts against other traders, takes 2% of net winnings and nothing on parlays, and doesn't limit winning players. Saints, Pelicans and LSU games are all on the board, and although Louisiana's gaming board views sports prediction markets as illegal betting, no state order is in force against ProphetX.

Sports betting law in Louisiana

Louisiana put sports betting on the ballot in every parish in November 2020. Fifty-five parishes said yes. The nine that said no are Caldwell, Catahoula, Franklin, Jackson, La Salle, Sabine, Union, West Carroll and Winn, and betting is still illegal there, online or in person.

In June 2021 Governor John Bel Edwards signed the bills that set up licensing and taxes. Licenses go to the state's riverboat casinos, racetracks and its one land-based casino, and each license covers a retail sportsbook and up to two apps. Retail betting opened in October 2021 and the apps followed in January 2022. In 2025 lawmakers raised the tax on online betting from 15% to 21.5%, with part of the money going to athletics at public universities.

Louisiana teams to bet on

Louisiana has an NFL team, an NBA team and a college football program with a national following.

  • New Orleans Saints (NFL): Play at the Superdome. 2026 is Kellen Moore's second season as head coach.
  • New Orleans Pelicans (NBA): Play at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
  • LSU Tigers (college): Play in the SEC and won national titles in 2003, 2007 and 2019. Lane Kiffin was named head football coach on November 30, 2025.
  • Other Louisiana schools: Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana and McNeese are among the state's Division I programs.
  • Golf and bowl games: The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is the state's PGA Tour stop, and Louisiana hosts three college bowl games.

Responsible gambling in Louisiana

Set a budget before you bet and use the deposit, wager and time limits every licensed app offers. If betting stops being fun, the Louisiana Problem Gamblers Helpline at 1-877-770-STOP (7867) is free, confidential and open around the clock, run by the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling. The Louisiana Gaming Control Board keeps a voluntary exclusion list that you sign in person at a Louisiana State Police gaming office, and every licensed app also lets you exclude yourself. The national helpline, 1-800-GAMBLER, is available too.

FAQs

Is online sports betting legal in Louisiana?

Yes, in 55 of the 64 parishes. Apps have been live since January 2022 under the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, and eight online sportsbooks operate today.

Which parishes do not allow sports betting?

Caldwell, Catahoula, Franklin, Jackson, La Salle, Sabine, Union, West Carroll and Winn. The apps block bets placed from those parishes, so you need to be in a neighboring parish to bet.

How old do you have to be to bet on sports in Louisiana?

You must be 21. Pick'em and prediction apps set their own minimum ages and check them at sign-up.

Which Louisiana sportsbook should I download first?

We would start with FanDuel for its easy app and same game parlays. DraftKings is close behind if you like odds boosts.

Can you bet on LSU?

Yes. Louisiana allows betting on college sports, including LSU and other in-state schools. A 2026 bill to ban prop bets did not pass.

Do you pay tax on sports betting winnings in Louisiana?

Yes. Winnings are taxable income for federal and state purposes, and Louisiana's income tax has been a flat 3% since 2025. Sportsbooks send a W-2G for larger wins.
