LSU vs Clemson Picks - August 30

The 2025 college football season is finally here, and we have a tremendous slate of Week 1 action to start the campaign. One of the marquee games on Saturday’s card comes in Death Valley, where the LSU Tigers are set to host the Clemson Tigers in what feels like a statement game for both programs. With this SEC vs ACC clash nearly upon us, let’s dive into our expert’s college football predictions and NCAAF best bets for this matchup.

PICK #1: Clemson -3.5 over LSU (-110)
After a couple of awful seasons on defense, Brian Kelly and LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker attacked the portal to try and shore up their defensive line and secondary. However, the results might not come in Week 1, especially when thrust into a matchup against a veteran-laden Clemson offense.
Garrett Riley’s offense started to pick up steam down the stretch of the 2024 campaign, and it was largely due to the growth and development of quarterback Cade Klubnik and the excellent wide receiver trio of TJ Moore, Bryant Wesco Jr., and Antonio Williams. Now, Klubnik should be in position to have a Heisman Trophy-caliber season behind an excellent offensive line that returns four of its five starters from a season ago.
Defensively, Clemson brings back nearly 80% of its production from last season, including a pair of future first round picks in TJ Parker and Peter Woods on the defensive line. However, while Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU offense should see some success in the passing game, the trench play is where I give Clemson the biggest edge in this contest.
LSU’s biggest questions are on the offensive line, and it’s difficult to be confident in the Tigers’ ability to have the right line combinations sorted out in the opening game of the season. Add in the fact that this should be an extremely loud and disorienting environment, and it’s hard to see LSU not stumbling a few times due to communication issues and inexperience on Saturday.
PICK #2: Under 57.5 Total Points (-110)
Given the fact that we’re getting a couple of national powerhouse brands and two of the best quarterbacks in the nation facing off against each other, the over will be a popular play in this one. However, our initial lean is actually toward the under on Saturday.
While we’re partial to Clemson’s offense in this contest, there is a real possibility that Blake Baker’s defense is a fair bit better than it was a season ago and that the visitors surprise Clemson a bit with their improvements on that side of the ball right out of the gate.
Conversely, the LSU passing offense should be elite from the opening week this season, but I have serious questions about how the Tigers will fare situationally in this one. Given the talent and depth on defense with Tom Allen at the controls, it’s hard to see Clemson giving up points in bunches in its home opener.
PICK #3: Antonio Williams (Clemson) Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+100)
Despite all of the high-level talent on display on Saturday, Antonio Williams will be one of the best players on the field. The Clemson wideout should be one of the top players in the nation at his position, so we can expect him to get plenty of targets in this game against an LSU secondary that needs to show major improvement. After finishing with 11 touchdowns a season ago, let’s take Williams to find the end zone on Saturday.
