No. 8 Florida (4-0, 2-0 SEC) brings the country's second-highest scoring offense to No. 25 Missouri (3-1, 0-1) on Saturday. Last week's 52-28 win over then-No. 4 Ole Miss moved the Gators up 13 spots in the AP poll. First-year coach Jon Sumrall's team averages 53.5 points, although 118 of its 214 came against Florida Atlantic and FCS Campbell. In two SEC games it's 48.0. Missouri is home after a 31-24 loss at Mississippi State, and quarterback Austin Simmons has carried the offense: 11 touchdown passes, zero interceptions.

Both sides are missing people. Missouri ruled out its two starting defensive ends, Langden Kitchen and Darris Smith, on Friday night. Florida has leading receiver Vernell Brown III doubtful with a knee strain. The Florida picks below assume he sits; if he plays, that only helps the offense. The final availability report lands about 2 p.m. ET.

The line has moved toward Florida and toward points. Florida opened around -2.5, with the total near 53.5. The consensus now is Florida -5.5 and 57.5, with the Gators -220 on the moneyline and Missouri +180.

Kickoff is Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Missouri, on ABC.

Florida vs. Missouri Predictions

  • Pick #1: Donovan Olugbode Anytime Touchdown (+115)
  • Pick #2: Florida -5.5 (-110)
  • Pick #3: Over 57.5 (-110)

PICK #1: Donovan Olugbode Anytime Touchdown (+115)

Olugbode has caught a touchdown in every game Missouri has played, and Missouri scores through the air.

The sophomore has a team-high five touchdown catches on 20 receptions for 313 yards: two against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and one each at Kansas, against Troy and at Mississippi State. Four of the five came from inside the 15 (14, 8, 12 and 9 yards). He and Cayden Lee have caught nine of Simmons' 11 touchdown passes between them. Simmons has thrown at least one in every game and three or more in three of four.

Game script should help. Missouri runs for just 4.2 yards a carry, so as a 5.5-point underdog it will lean on Simmons, who threw 39 passes in the loss at Mississippi State. Florida's opponents have thrown 160 passes in four games, and all three FBS teams the Gators have played threw a touchdown pass: Florida Atlantic one, Auburn three, Ole Miss one.

The Florida pass defense is better than its yardage, though. It allows 248.3 passing yards a game mostly because teams throw so much; per attempt it gives up 6.21 yards, less than Missouri does, and it ranks 49th in the FBS in pass-efficiency defense with 12 sacks and eight takeaways. Missouri has also turned 21 red-zone trips into just 11 touchdowns, and last week Olugbode caught four passes while Lee caught 11. Plus-115 puts it at 46.5%.

Lee at +100 is the obvious alternative. He has more catches and yards and scored twice last week. But all four of his touchdowns came from 21 yards or farther, and Troy kept him out of the end zone, so I'll take the receiver with the short scores and a touchdown every week. This is the only pick here that depends on Missouri's offense, and a Missouri team chasing the game only throws more. The +115 is the price as of 6:13 AM ET.

PICK #2: Florida -5.5 (-110)

Nobody has slowed this Florida offense yet, and Missouri gets it without both starting defensive ends.

The two games that tell you the most about Saturday are the SEC ones: 44 at Auburn and 52 against Ole Miss. The Gators run for 260.0 yards a game, 11th in the FBS, with Jadan Baugh at 600 yards and 11 touchdowns on 83 carries. They've scored on 23 of 24 red-zone trips, 20 of them touchdowns. Missouri has already had a taste of life without its ends. Smith missed the Mississippi State game, Kitchen left it in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs ran 40 times for 139 yards and scored 31.

On the other side, Missouri averages 4.2 yards a carry, and Florida allows 103.0 rushing yards a game. That leaves Simmons to win it through the air.

The worries are legitimate. Florida won by five at Auburn, 44-39, in its only road game, and five doesn't cover this number. Mississippi State's 31 was below its 43.0 average, and Daeden Hopkins had 3.5 of his six sacks in that game. Simmons hasn't thrown an interception, and Missouri is 35-9 at home under Eli Drinkwitz. Brown is doubtful, and 24 of Florida's points came from his two punt-return touchdowns and two touchdown catches. Then again, the Gators scored 35 in the second half against Ole Miss after he left. You've also missed the good number: at least one major book opened this at -2.5, and one betting tracker shows 63% of spread bets on the Gators.

If Kitchen or Smith gets upgraded on the final report, pass on the side. Another way to bet this offense is a Florida scorer: Dallas Wilson (+135) and Aaron Philo (+140) have each scored in three of four games. This pick and the Over both need Florida points, so a flat Gators afternoon costs you twice. The -110 is the consensus price as of 6:00 AM ET.

PICK #3: Over 57.5 (-110)

Florida's two SEC games cleared this number by more than 20 points each, and Missouri's offense scores the way Florida's opponents have.

Auburn and Ole Miss games finished with 83 and 80 points. Florida scored 44 and 52 and allowed 39 and 28, because opponents fall behind, throw about 40 times a game and keep converting third downs, where Florida ranks 104th in the FBS. That's a fit for Simmons, who threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns at Mississippi State. Florida's offense, meanwhile, has punted only five times in four games, and Missouri's defense gave up 499 yards and 31 points in the one game it played mostly without its starting ends. Losing Brown didn't slow Florida against Ole Miss either: 35 points after halftime without him.

The weather won't save an Under. The National Weather Service has sunny skies and 72 degrees for the 2:30 p.m. local kickoff in Columbia, with a 3 mph wind and no chance of rain.

The best argument against is the price. The total opened near 53.5 and has climbed to 57.5, and one betting tracker shows 81% of bets on the Over. Florida's pass defense, 49th in the FBS in pass efficiency, is better per throw than the yardage says. Missouri's last two games finished with 44 and 55 points. The Tigers settle for field goals, with 11 touchdowns on 21 red-zone trips, and they held Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kansas and Troy to 14, 21 and 17. Florida's ground game eats clock too: 53 carries against Ole Miss and an average time of possession of 34:04.

If 57.5 feels too high to you, Florida -5.5 covers the same ground, since both picks rest on the same reasoning. If Kitchen or Smith does dress, the Over loses one support but still has Florida's two SEC totals behind it. A 38-27 Florida win hits all three: the Over, the cover and a Missouri touchdown through the air. Consensus had the Over at -110 as of 6:00 AM ET.
