Florida State vs. Louisville Prediction, CFB Week 6 Odds & Best Bets (10/9)

Fact checked at 8:44 AM ET, Oct 9, 2026
Odds as of Oct 9, 7:48 AM ET
Florida State rolls into Louisville at 3-2 and feeling good about itself. The Seminoles beat Virginia 38-7 last week, Ashton Daniels ran for five touchdowns, and the defense piled up 10 sacks. Louisville is 2-3 and sick of close games: back-to-back three-point losses to Wake Forest and NC State, and all three of its losses this season by exactly three points. Lose again and the Cardinals are 1-3 in the ACC.
Ignore the scary-looking opener. One major book hung Louisville -7.5 late last Saturday night, but by Tuesday the Cardinals were 3.5-point favorites at the major books, and the spread has not moved since: Louisville -3.5 (-112), Florida State +3.5 (-108), moneyline Louisville -185 and Florida State +150. The total opened at 58.5 and is 59.5 now. There is no injury story behind any of it. Louisville quarterback Lincoln Kienholz has been probable on every conference availability report this week after playing through a lower-leg injury at NC State, and a reporter with sources at the program says he will play. Running back Keyjuan Brown is questionable. Florida State's out list is almost all defense; the two offensive names on it, running back Samuel Singleton Jr. and wide receiver Devin Carter, were out last week as well. The conference's final availability report lands about two hours before kickoff.
Kickoff is 7:00 PM ET at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium in Louisville, on ESPN. Expect a warm, dry night, around 80 degrees at kickoff with a light east wind.
Here is how we see it. Louisville's defense is the worst unit on the field. Florida State is going to run through it, Louisville's offense is going to answer, and this becomes exactly the kind of close, high-scoring game the Cardinals keep finding ways to lose.
Florida State vs. Louisville Predictions
- Pick #1: Ousmane Kromah 70+ Rushing Yards (-180)
- Pick #2: Florida State +3.5 (-108)
- Pick #3: Over 59.5 (-112)
PICK #1: Ousmane Kromah 70+ Rushing Yards (-180)
Kromah's worst game this season is 80 yards. Twice. The full line: 115 on 14 carries against New Mexico State, 116 on 22 against SMU, 80 on 17 at Alabama, 86 on 11 against Central Arkansas, 80 on 17 against Virginia. Five rushing touchdowns, 5.9 yards a carry, and no real competition for the ball. Singleton had nine, seven and four carries in the first three games and has missed the last two; Quintrevion Wisner, the backup, got nine and eight carries in those two weeks.
Louisville gives up 156 rushing yards a game, and the good offenses on its schedule have done better than that. SMU ran for 257, Wake Forest for 177, Ole Miss for 152. Only NC State (120) and FCS Villanova (75) stayed under 150. Florida State averages 194 on the ground and ran it 46 times against Virginia.
What could go wrong is Daniels himself. He carried 17 times for 136 yards last week, and on nights like that Kromah's share shrinks. Against Central Arkansas, with the game decided early, Kromah got just 11 carries. He still finished those two games with 80 and 86. The 80+ rung pays better at -122, but two of his five games stopped at exactly 80, so we'll pay for ten yards of cushion. -180 works out to a 64.3% implied chance.
PICK #2: Florida State +3.5 (-108)
Nobody has run Louisville off the field this season. Teams just outlast it. Seven of its last eight losses dating to 2024 have come by three points or fewer, and this year's three were 41-38, 30-27 and 31-28. In a game the market has priced close to a coin flip, the hook at 3.5 covers the exact margin Louisville's games keep landing on.
The defense is why the Cardinals keep ending up there. Every FBS opponent has scored 30 or more on them: Ole Miss 41, SMU 31, Wake Forest 30, NC State 31. Louisville ranks 113th nationally in scoring defense at 29.2 points a game and 130th of 138 teams against the pass at 266.8 yards a game. Florida State has scored 34 or more in four of five games.
Florida State's pass rush is the other half. The Seminoles have 17 sacks, tied for seventh in the country, 10 of them against Virginia. Louisville's offensive line is thin, with Bryten Close and Sam Secrest out and Cason Henry questionable, and Kienholz, sacked 10 times already this season, is playing on a bad leg. Bettors are on the Seminoles' side here, with 68% of bets and 73% of the money on Florida State against the spread.
Louisville's offense, though, is the best unit in this game. The Cardinals average 486 yards and 38.6 points and have scored 27 or more every week, while Florida State's pass defense ranks 127th nationally and has already coughed up 430 passing yards to SMU and 320 to Alabama. Florida State's one road game this season ended 50-36 in Tuscaloosa. The common opponent doesn't help either: SMU beat Florida State 27-24 in Tallahassee and lost 41-31 at Louisville. That is why we want the points at -108 (51.9% implied) rather than the outright win. If the plus money is too tempting, Florida State +150 on the moneyline is the same side of the game; we prefer the hook.
PICK #3: Over 59.5 (-112)
Two of the worst pass defenses in the country share a field tonight. Florida State ranks 127th at 265.6 yards allowed a game, Louisville 130th at 266.8, and neither offense needs the help. Louisville has scored 27 or more in every game and has eight touchdowns of 50 or more yards, at least one every week, on 37 plays of 20 or more. Florida State has scored 34 or more in four of five games and put 36 on Alabama.
Louisville's four FBS games have totaled 79, 72, 57 and 59 points. The one opponent with an offense comparable to Florida State's, SMU, produced a 72-point game. Florida State's two games against real offenses, SMU and Alabama, totaled 51 and 86. Add a Louisville defense that cannot get off the field against the pass to a Florida State pass defense that has already given up 430 and 320 in a game, and 60 points is not a big ask.
The pushback is Florida State's style. Four of the Seminoles' five games stayed under this number, they held New Mexico State, Central Arkansas and Virginia to 17, 7 and 7, and last week they ran 46 times and held the ball for nearly 32 minutes. A run-heavy plan shortens games. Weather won't matter either way. -112 implies 52.8%, and the number varies by a point and a half across the market, with some books at 59 and at least one at 60.5, so take the lowest one you can find.
