Dream vs. Valkyries Prediction, WNBA Finals Game 1 Odds & Best Bets (10/17)

Fact checked at 6:50 AM ET, Oct 17, 2026
Odds as of Oct 17, 5:54 AM ET
The Finals open with the league's best defense against one of its best offenses. Golden State went 32-12, took the No. 2 seed and home court, and allowed 75.1 points per game, more than seven fewer than any other team in the league. Atlanta went 30-14 as the No. 4 seed and scored 91.3 a game, third-most in the league. The Dream are 5-0 in the playoffs and have scored at least 85 every time out, sweeping Washington and then New York, though the last two wins over the Liberty came by three points and two.
Golden State has already answered the question three times. The Valkyries beat Atlanta 77-66 and 78-75 at home in June and 88-83 in Atlanta on July 4, holding the Dream to 74.7 points a game. They went 17-5 at home in the regular season and are 4-0 at home in the playoffs.
Atlanta's health is the other story. Allisha Gray is questionable with a left-hand injury. She played 11 minutes of the semifinal opener, missed the last two games, had a minor procedure and is back in full practice, listed day-to-day. Brionna Jones is out with a left-leg injury, as she has been all postseason.
Golden State is a 2.5-point favorite with a total of 154.5, and the spread hasn't budged since it opened Oct 14. Game 1 tips Saturday at 3:30 PM ET at Chase Center in San Francisco on NBC and Peacock.
Dream vs. Valkyries Predictions
- Pick #1: Valkyries -2.5 (-109)
PICK #1: Valkyries -2.5 (-109)
Atlanta's offense has to beat the best defense in the league, and it has gone 0-for-3 at that this year, scoring 66, 75 and 83. Golden State allowed 75.1 points per game over 44 games. Nobody else held opponents under 82.7.
The playoffs have looked the same. Dallas put up 108 in an overtime win in the first round, and since then Golden State has won four straight while allowing 73, 60, 81 and 77.
You only need a three-point win, and this team gets those. Golden State won by three or more in 34 of its 50 games this season, playoffs included, and has lost five home games all year. At -109, the break-even is 52.2%.
Atlanta's lineup helps too. Jones is out, and in the two games Gray missed, DeWanna Bonner started in her place. Golden State's projected five of Veronica Burton, Cecilia Zandalasini, Gabby Williams, Kayla Thornton and Kiah Stokes started each of its last five games, and the Valkyries have no new injuries.
Atlanta's run is the reason for caution. The Dream haven't lost since the regular season, and a healthy Gray hands them back a 19-point scorer. Golden State's own offense, 82.2 points a game, is why an underdog can hang around. We'll take home court, a 3-0 season series and the league's best defense over that streak.
