App State vs. Coastal Carolina Prediction, CFB Week 7 Odds & Best Bets (10/16)

Fact checked at 9:16 AM ET, Oct 16, 2026
Odds as of Oct 16, 9:14 AM ET
App State's passing game arrives in Conway in pieces. Malachi Singleton got hurt late in last Saturday's 10-3 home loss to Old Dominion, sat out the final drive, and is questionable on the Sun Belt availability report. Next on the depth chart is Henry Hasselbeck, who has thrown nine passes all season and run 16 times for 105 yards. Singleton's targets are thinner as well: receiver Daz James is out, and receivers Chris Lofton and Alexander Sanchez and tight end Dillon Galloway are questionable. Running back Treyaun Webb is also out.
The betting market has moved the total and left the side alone. The total opened as high as 53.5 and sits at 48.5 (-110 both ways), while App State is still a 1.5-point road favorite (-108, with Coastal Carolina +1.5 at -112) and -118 on the moneyline to Coastal's -102. Weather isn't the reason. Hurricane rain and gusts near 30 mph explain a lot of the 13 points against Old Dominion and Singleton's 5-of-23 afternoon, but Friday night in Conway should be dry and mild, in the mid-70s with a light south wind. This is about who is available to play.
Coastal Carolina (2-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) has its own way of winning ugly. Last week's 27-21 win at Marshall came on six forced turnovers and 45 runs, and Deuce Bailey threw only 18 passes. The Chanticleers lead the Sun Belt with 13 takeaways and have won the last four meetings. App State is 3-2 and 0-1 in the league. Kickoff is Friday at 8:00 PM ET at Brooks Stadium on ESPN2.
Put it together and an App State team without a full-strength Singleton or its usual pass-catchers turns to Jaquari Lewis, Coastal hands off to Dominic Lee-Knicely, and the game stays under the total. Lewis supplies App State's touchdown, and both picks cash.
App State vs. Coastal Carolina Predictions
- Pick #1: Under 48.5 Total Points (-110)
- Pick #2: Jaquari Lewis Anytime Touchdown (-160)
PICK #1: Under 48.5 Total Points (-110)
Coastal Carolina hasn't scored more than 27 points against an FBS team all year. It scored 24 at West Virginia, 14 at Delaware, 17 against Liberty, 24 against Georgia Southern and 27 at Marshall, and even those numbers flatter the offense: seven of the Georgia Southern points came on a punt return, and Marshall gave the ball away six times. Bailey has 1,340 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, but he has completed just 93 of 173 throws. Once Coastal had a lead last week, Lee-Knicely got the ball 25 times.
App State's defense gives up 19.8 points a game. With Singleton healthy, its offense hit big plays, yet it has still converted only about 31 percent of third downs, and that healthy version isn't coming to Conway. Both teams want to run. App State's own game preview said the Mountaineers would benefit from getting the run game going "regardless of who is behind center," and Coastal ran 45 times at Marshall. Long drives on the ground eat possessions.
At -110, the Under has to win 52.4% of the time. The danger is Singleton playing at full speed. Coastal's secondary has given up more than 220 passing yards and at least two touchdown passes in each of its last four games, and five of the two teams' nine games against FBS opponents went over 48.5. The total has already dropped five points from its highest opener, so part of the injury is in the number. This pick leans on App State playing without a full-strength Singleton.
PICK #2: Jaquari Lewis Anytime Touchdown (-160)
Every time App State has scored a touchdown in a game this season, Lewis has scored one too. He has 57 carries for 261 yards and four touchdowns on 11, 17, 11, 8 and 10 carries, and no other App State player except a quarterback has topped eight carries in a game. He scored from 12 yards against Maine, 10 at East Carolina, and 2 against both Charlotte and NC State. His only blank was the Old Dominion loss, when App State never reached the end zone and finished with 158 total yards in the rain.
The price of -160 implies 61.5%, and the matchup backs it. Webb, who scored on runs of 2 and 13 yards this season, is listed out, which leaves one fewer back to split the work. Coastal allows 189.7 rushing yards a game: Liberty ran for 263 against it, Georgia Southern for 166 and Marshall for 221, and Coastal has given up at least one rushing touchdown in each of its last four games. If App State builds its night around the run, the ball goes to Lewis.
Coastal's red-zone defense and its 13 takeaways could cut down App State's chances. Quarterbacks can also take the short scores: Singleton has touchdown runs of 4 yards at East Carolina and 3 yards at NC State, and Hasselbeck is a runner.
