2026 NCAAF National Championship Best Picks
The 2026 college football season arrives with a familiar group of heavyweights at the top of the national championship board, but there is enough roster movement and coaching turnover to create some intriguing futures value beyond the shortest prices.
CFB National Championship odds
Ohio State enters as the favorite (+550) after once again reloading around quarterback Julian Sayin and superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith, while Notre Dame (+600), Oregon (+750), Georgia (+800) and Texas (+850) all follow closely. Indiana (+900) is also firmly in the mix after last season’s championship run, while Miami is being respected as the clear ACC favourite following its trip to the national title game (+1100).
There is then a significant drop to Texas Tech at +2000, while LSU, Ole Miss and Oklahoma are each +2200. Alabama (+2500) and Texas A&M (+2700) round out the next tier.
2026 CFB Season Predictions
Pick #1: Miami (Florida) to win the National Championship (+1100)
Pick #2: LSU to win the National Championship (+2200)
Pick #3: Oklahoma State to make the College Football Playoff 2026-27 (+1600)
PICK #1: Miami to win the National Championship (+1100)
Miami had its heart broken in the National Championship Game last season, but there is a strong argument the Hurricanes enter 2026 with an even higher offensive ceiling.
The biggest change is at quarterback, where Darian Mensah arrives after throwing for 3,979 yards and 34 touchdowns against only six interceptions last season. He reunites with former Duke target Cooper Barkate and joins a skill group that already features explosive sophomore Malachi Toney and running back Mark Fletcher Jr.
That combination gives Mario Cristobal one of the deepest offenses in the country.
Miami also has a favourable path compared to many SEC and Big Ten powers. The Hurricanes are the clear ACC favourite, and although their November meeting with Notre Dame will carry major playoff implications, the conference schedule provides a realistic path to a top CFP seed.
Losing pass rusher Reuben Bain Jr. hurts, but the secondary remains experienced and deep.
At +1100, Miami offers a nice middle ground between elite-team upside and a price that still gives bettors something meaningful back.
PICK #2: LSU to win the National Championship (+2200)
There may not be a more fascinating team in the country than LSU.
The Tigers are coming off a disappointing seven-win season, but Lane Kiffin wasted no time revamping the roster. LSU landed one of the country’s best transfer quarterbacks in Sam Leavitt, added five highly regarded portal receivers and strengthened the offensive line with Jordan Seaton, a projected first-round talent.
The defence also has enough returning production to avoid becoming a complete rebuild. Coordinator Blake Baker remains in place, while Whit Weeks, DJ Pickett, PJ Woodland and Dawshawn Spears give LSU an experienced core supplemented by several impact transfers.
The concern is obvious: the schedule is brutal. LSU faces Ole Miss, Tennessee and Auburn on the road while hosting Texas, Alabama and Texas A&M.
If LSU navigates the schedule at 9-3 or 10-2, it will almost certainly reach the playoff.
At +2200, the price reflects the risk while still accounting for a roster talented enough to beat almost anyone.
PICK #3: Oklahoma State to make the College Football Playoff (+1600)
Oklahoma State underwent one of the biggest overhauls in college football, replacing Mike Gundy with Eric Morris and bringing in more than 50 transfers.
Morris brought quarterback Drew Mestemaker and running back Caleb Hawkins with him from North Texas, giving the Cowboys immediate familiarity within a new offensive system. The schedule also helps. A Week 2 meeting with Oregon is daunting, but beyond that, there are few games that look completely unwinnable.
Texas Tech is clearly the Big 12’s strongest team on paper, but the rest of the conference is filled with questions. BYU, Houston, TCU, Kansas State, Arizona State and Utah all enter with meaningful roster or coaching uncertainty of their own.
Oklahoma State does not need to be utterly dominant to cash this ticket. It needs to emerge from a volatile middle tier, reach the Big 12 title game and put itself in position to steal an automatic CFP berth.
