Vikings vs. Lions Prediction, NFL Week 8 Odds & Best Bets (11/1)

Fact checked at 8:20 AM ET, Nov 1, 2026
Odds as of 7:28 AM ET, Nov 1, 2026
The Vikings (6-0) visit the Lions (4-2) at 1:00 PM ET on Fox at Ford Field, where Detroit is 3-0. We expect Minnesota's first loss. Detroit runs well enough, as Jahmyr Gibbs says it must, that the league's most blitz-heavy defense can't sit on the pass, Jared Goff finishes drives, and Kyler Murray's offense doesn't score enough to keep up. That gets us to the Lions on the spread and Gibbs over his rushing number.
Detroit is -3.5 (-102) and -178 on the moneyline, with the total at 46. Goff and Murray are expected to start. Gibbs missed one practice this week with a shoulder issue, then went full and has no game designation. Detroit has Kerby Joseph out and Roger McCreary questionable, and Minnesota has Jay Ward questionable.
Vikings vs. Lions Predictions
- Pick #1: Lions -3.5 (-102)
- Pick #2: Jahmyr Gibbs Over 88.5 Rushing Yards (-114)
PICK #1: Lions -3.5 (-102)
Minnesota's offense is why we'll lay the points. Murray has made four starts and thrown for 150, 229, 247 and 168 yards, without a game of 250 yards or two touchdowns. The Vikings scored 23, 15, 23 and 16 in those starts and rank 29th in total offense, so a game that gets into the 20s asks a lot of them.
Minnesota's defense allows 12.3 points a game, the fewest in the league. But Goff has 14 touchdowns and no interceptions, and he leads the league in passing yards per game (298) and passer rating (112.5). Detroit scores 30.7 a game, second in the league, and ranks second in EPA per play against the blitz. Six games is a short run for both teams. At -102 you're paying for a 50.5% chance, and about 80% of the spread money and 70% of the bets are on Detroit.
The hook can cost you. Detroit has won by four or more in just two of six games and is 1-4-1 against the spread, and last week's 20-17 win over Green Bay wouldn't have covered this. Some books have Detroit -3. Its pass defense is also last in the league at 291.8 yards a game and has struggled with tight ends all year, which gives Murray and T.J. Hockenson an opening. Minnesota won both meetings last season, with other quarterbacks, and sacked Goff five times in each.
PICK #2: Jahmyr Gibbs Over 88.5 Rushing Yards (-114)
Gibbs has cleared this number in all four Detroit wins: 156, 99, 151 and 116 yards. He fell short in the two losses, with 52 at Buffalo and 46 at Carolina. It's only six games, but that's the same game we're betting on in the first pick, and his carries explain it: 29, 20, 25 and 29 in the wins, 16 and 15 in the losses.
"We need to be really good in the run game so they can't sit in all those blitzes," he said this week. The ground is also where Minnesota gives a little. It ranks first in EPA per pass allowed and ninth against the run, and it allows 155.0 net passing yards a game (second) and 97.8 rushing yards (10th). Indianapolis ran for 154 last week, 116 of it outside one 38-yard touchdown. Gibbs leads the league in touches, and when Detroit's coordinator was asked if any number is too many, his answer was no. At -114 that's 53.3% implied.
His history against this defense is the worry. He ran for 25 and 41 yards against Minnesota last season and cleared 88.5 in only 5 of 17 games overall, though David Montgomery took 716 rushing yards out of that backfield, and Gibbs now gets 89.2% of the opportunity there. Minnesota allows 4.2 yards a carry. If the Vikings get ahead, this starts to look like Buffalo and Carolina.
