The Titans (1-6) visit the Bengals (4-2) at Paycor Stadium for a 1:00 PM ET kickoff on CBS. We expect Joe Burrow's passing game to run this one while Tennessee, already 31st in scoring, stays stuck in the teens without its top receiver. That kind of game stays under 46.5, leaves Cam Ward throwing from behind and doesn't ask much of Chase Brown.

Tennessee traded All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to Chicago this week. Rookie Carnell Tate (shoulder), its leader in targets (51), catches (34) and yards (413), is out, and so is running back Tyjae Spears (knee). Calvin Ridley (hip) is questionable but expected to play, and Ja'Marr Chase has no game designation. Cincinnati was a 10.5-point favorite when books posted this game after Week 7 and is now -12.5.

Titans vs. Bengals Predictions

  • Pick #1: Under 46.5 (-110)
  • Pick #2: Cameron Ward Over 0.5 Interceptions (-142)
  • Pick #3: Chase Brown Under 84.5 Rushing + Receiving Yards (-113)

PICK #1: Under 46.5 (-110)

Six of Tennessee's seven games finished under this number, and the offense scoring 15.4 a game got its two best totals without much help from Ward. He threw for 102 yards in the 26-20 win at Indianapolis, which took three takeaways, a 58-yard punt return and a blocked-punt return. He had 181 and no touchdowns in the 27-24 loss to Cleveland, when Tony Pollard scored three times. Simmons forced the fumble that started the Colts rally, and he's gone.

So is the main downfield threat. Tate has 35% of Ward's passing yards, and Wan'Dale Robinson, next with 43 targets, has seven catches for 29 yards over the last two games. The Titans already rank 31st in passing yards per game at 157.4, and Cincinnati has 21 sacks, tied for second in the league, while allowing 20.3 points a game, eighth.

The price implies 52.4%, and the two teams' games have gone under in 8 of 13. The spread has grown two points since it opened while the total has stayed near 46, so the added margin comes off Tennessee's side. The Under has 52% of the money on 37% of the bets. A 30-14 Bengals win lands at 44.

Cincinnati is the danger. It scores 27.2 a game, fourth in the league, four of its six games went over 46.5, and Burrow has thrown four touchdown passes in each of his last two. The 35-13 win at Baltimore totaled 48, and this Titans defense just lost its best player. The forecast, about 70 degrees with light wind, gives the Under no help.

PICK #2: Cameron Ward Over 0.5 Interceptions (-142)

Ward has been picked off in five straight games, exactly once each time, on as few as 22 attempts at Indianapolis and on 36 in the 26-3 loss to Houston. His 73.8 passer rating is third worst in the league.

At 58.7% implied, you're already paying for that streak, and the longer record is thinner. He threw one in 7 of 17 games as a rookie, which makes him 12 of 24 for his career, and this season's streak is only seven games. The matchup is the reason to pay it. With Tate out, Ward leans more on Robinson, Elic Ayomanor and tight end Gunnar Helm, and as a 12.5-point underdog he should be throwing late to catch up, into that pass rush.

One clean game loses this. Cincinnati's four interceptions in six games aren't a big number, Ward has been sacked just 11 times, once over the last two games, and shorter throws without Tate are harder to pick off.

PICK #3: Chase Brown Under 84.5 Rushing + Receiving Yards (-113)

Brown has stayed under this number in all six games: 78, 82, 69, 81, 60 and 58. Cincinnati wins through the air: it's fifth in passing yards per game and 30th in rushing at 81.2. Brown averages 3.5 yards a carry and has 88 yards on 33 carries over the last three games, while Tee Higgins has 571 receiving yards and Chase and Mike Gesicki have five touchdown catches each.

The worry with a big favorite is clock-killing carries, and his log answers it. He got a season-high 20 carries in the 20-6 win at Houston and finished at 82. He had 58 in the rout at Baltimore, playing 75% of the snaps to Samaje Perine's 23%, and Perine scored the goal-line touchdown. His 81 against Jacksonville took 11 catches in a game Chase played only 20% of the snaps; Chase played 87% at Baltimore.

At -113 you're paying for 53.1%, and the risk is the matchup. Tennessee allows 131.1 rushing yards a game, 26th in the league, and now plays without Simmons. Last season Brown cleared this number in 10 of 17 games, and he's come within four yards twice. If either player sits, book rules decide what happens to his prop.
