Spurs vs Thunder Western Conference Finals Game 1 Picks

Spurs vs Thunder Western Conference Finals Game 1 Picks
The wait is over. These two teams have been on a collision course all season, and tonight, the Western Conference Finals finally get underway at Paycom Center. Oklahoma City steamrolled its way through the first two rounds without a blemish, dispatching the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers in back-to-back sweeps to arrive here as the defending champion and the clear favorite. San Antonio's road was bumpier, requiring six games to put away the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round, but the Spurs closed the door convincingly and now enter this series with real momentum.
Both clubs were among the elite all season long, with the Spurs finishing 62-20 and the Thunder at 64-18. With tip-off set for 8:30 p.m. ET, here are our Game 1 picks.
Spurs vs Thunder Game 1 Predictions
- Pick 1: Oklahoma City Thunder -6.5 (-110) vs San Antonio Spurs
- Pick 2: Under 219.5 (-110)
- Pick 3: Ajay Mitchell Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds (-109)
PICK 1: Oklahoma City Thunder -6.5 (-110)
The Thunder are -260 series favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, backed by the NBA's best regular-season record at 64-18. Eight consecutive playoff wins without a single loss is not just a statistic; it is a statement. Paycom Center has been one of the most difficult buildings to win in across the last two postseasons, and OKC is not showing any signs of slowing down. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been exceptional, averaging 29.1 points and 7.1 assists on 51.4% shooting through the first two rounds.
San Antonio's ability to stay in this game leans heavily on De'Aaron Fox being healthy and effective. Fox is listed as questionable heading into Game 1 with an ankle issue, and a diminished version of him removes one of the few players capable of matching OKC's pace in transition. The Spurs did go 3-1 against the Thunder as underdogs in four regular-season meetings, so they have shown they know how to compete in this matchup.
The problem is that competing with Oklahoma City on the road in a Conference Finals opener is an entirely different challenge. The Thunder should be sharp, motivated, and locked in on their own floor. Back them to handle business early in this series.
PICK 2: Under 219.5 (-110)
Few totals on the board this postseason deserve more attention than this one. San Antonio owns the best defensive rating in the playoffs at 102.2, holding opponents to just 102.5 points per game while limiting them to 40.5% shooting from the field, the stingiest mark in the NBA. Oklahoma City ranks sixth in defensive rating at 109.3, with opponents also struggling to generate clean looks against their pressure.
These teams finished below the total in all three regular-season matchups at Paycom Center this season. Additionally, the first games of a series between two defensive-minded programs have a natural tendency to play out as chess matches, with offenses needing time to solve unfamiliar looks and coverages.
The Under has also connected in six of the last 10 meetings between these two clubs overall, including three of their five regular-season contests this year. When both rosters are this committed to making life miserable for opposing offenses, the total is the play. Expect a physical, slow-paced Game 1 that finishes well under the number.
PICK 3: Ajay Mitchell Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds (-105)
Nobody on either roster has been a bigger surprise this postseason than Mitchell. He has put up 18.8 points per game and cleared 16.5 combined points and rebounds in seven straight outings, averaging 24 per night across that stretch while converting 48% of his field goal attempts.
The wrinkle worth monitoring is how Jalen Williams' potential return affects Mitchell's role and playing time. Williams has been working his way back from a hamstring injury and has missed OKC's last six postseason games, meaning Daigneault will face a real decision about how to reintegrate him. That said, nothing we have seen from this coaching staff suggests they will yank a player performing at this level without good reason. Daigneault has consistently rewarded production throughout this run, and Mitchell has earned his minutes. Back him to continue his breakout postseason at home when it matters most.
