Red Wings vs. Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds & Best Bets (10/26)

Fact checked at 8:09 AM ET, Oct 26, 2026
Odds as of 7:39 AM ET, Oct 26, 2026
Detroit (4-4-3) finishes a four-game Western road trip at Rogers Place, and puck drop is 9:30 PM ET. Both teams are coming off losses. Edmonton (8-2-1) lost 7-2 at home to Toronto, and Detroit lost 4-1 in Calgary. Edmonton is a -183 favorite with Detroit at +150, and the total is 6.5. Mattias Ekholm is still out for the Oilers. John Gibson and Tristan Jarry are expected in goal, though neither has been confirmed.
We think the shot clock tells this one. Edmonton scores 4.36 goals a game, best in the league, on just 25.5 shots a game, which ranks 26th, so its offense runs on finishing. Detroit takes 29.8 shots a game, sixth-most, while allowing 25.5, ninth-fewest. We expect the same pattern, with Detroit's top line getting its looks and Edmonton scoring without piling up shots. That means Emmitt Finnie over his number and Connor McDavid and Kasperi Kapanen under theirs. These are all shot props, so the goalie question doesn't touch them. Books don't agree on whether overtime shots count for player props, so check how yours settles them.
Red Wings vs. Oilers Predictions
- Pick #1: Connor McDavid Under 3.5 Shots on Goal (-135)
- Pick #2: Emmitt Finnie Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-135)
- Pick #3: Kasperi Kapanen Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+105)
PICK #1: Connor McDavid Under 3.5 Shots on Goal (-135)
McDavid has 33 points in 11 games, with at least one in every game, and most of it has come from setting other people up. Newest first, his last 10 shot totals are 3, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1, 4 and 3. Seven of those 10 stayed at three or fewer, and -135 implies 57.4%.
He put three on net in the 7-2 loss to Toronto, three in the shootout win over Carolina, and two apiece against Utah (twice) and Los Angeles. Against Toronto he centered Vasily Podkolzin and Leon Draisaitl, and his first power-play unit also has Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evan Bouchard. That's a lot of other shooters on the ice with him. The team numbers point the same way: Edmonton is 26th in shots per game, and Detroit gives up the ninth-fewest.
He did get to four against Minnesota, San Jose and Seattle, and one extra shot is all it takes to lose this. Edmonton may also come out pushing after the 7-2 loss to Toronto.
PICK #2: Emmitt Finnie Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-135)
Two shots isn't much to ask of Detroit's top-line center. Finnie's last 10 read 0, 2, 1, 6, 1, 4, 2, 2, 2 and 2, so he got to two in seven of them. The -135 price implies 57.4%.
He centered Alex DeBrincat and Viktor Arvidsson in Calgary and plays on the second power-play unit with Michael Rasmussen, Andrew Copp, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Justin Faulk. His best nights were six shots against San Jose and four against New Jersey. Detroit takes 29.8 shots a game, sixth-most in the league, and Edmonton allows 27, more than the Red Wings do.
Finnie had no shots in Calgary and one in Seattle, so two of his last four games came up short. If Edmonton's top players pin Detroit in its own end for long stretches, every Red Wings forward loses looks.
PICK #3: Kasperi Kapanen Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+105)
Kapanen doesn't shoot much, and we get a plus price to bet that he won't again. His last 10 games: 1, 3, 0, 2, 1, 0, 1, 3, 1 and 1. He finished at one or none in seven, and +105 implies 48.8%.
Against Toronto he played left wing on the second line with Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman, and he's on the second power-play unit, not the first. His two three-shot games came against Carolina and Anaheim. In the other eight he had two or fewer, and he was held without a shot twice. A second-line wing on a team that ranks 26th in shots, facing a defense that allows the ninth-fewest, shouldn't get many chances.
Five of those 10 games ended with exactly one shot. Nugent-Hopkins' return has also shuffled the lineup around Kapanen, and in the two games since he has had three shots and then one.
