Red Wings vs. Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds & Best Bets (10/22)

Fact checked at 9:08 AM ET, Oct 22, 2026
Odds as of Oct 22, 9:07 AM ET
Vancouver is 2-8-1 and hasn't won in eight games (0-7-1), and the underlying numbers are uglier than the record. The Canucks average 20.7 shots per game, the fewest in the NHL, while allowing 33.7, the most. They have given up 51 goals in 11 games, a league-worst 4.64 per game, and their penalty kill (63.9%) also ranks last. Kevin Lankinen, the expected starter with Thatcher Demko on injured reserve, is 1-6-0 with a 6.40 goals-against average and an .807 save percentage.
Detroit (3-3-3) is on the second stop of a four-game road trip, coming off Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss in Seattle. Both teams last played Tuesday. The Red Wings won both meetings last season, 4-0 in Vancouver and 5-1 at home, and they're -170 favorites here with the total at 6.5. Puck drop is Thursday at 10:00 PM ET at Rogers Arena.
We expect Detroit to spend most of the night in the Vancouver end. The Canucks can't get pucks to the net and can't keep them out of their own, and both of our picks are built on that.
Red Wings vs. Canucks Predictions
- Pick #1: Brock Boeser Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+135)
- Pick #2: Filip Hronek Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+100)
PICK #1: Brock Boeser Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+135)
Boeser has 14 shots in 11 games. He has finished with one shot or none in 8 of them, including each of his last three: zero against Carolina on Tuesday, one at Tampa Bay and one at Florida. His only multi-shot games were three against Calgary, two against Edmonton and three at the Islanders on Oct. 13.
His ice time hasn't dried up. He played more than 21 minutes in each of his last three games, he's on the top power-play unit, and he skated with Marco Rossi and Paul Cotter at Wednesday's practice. Vancouver just doesn't shoot. At 20.7 shots a game there isn't much volume to go around, and Boeser has spent more of his share setting up teammates: six assists, including one in each of his last three games.
The price says 42.6%. He's stayed under this line 73% of the time this season. His longer record is the real risk: last season he had two or more shots in 52 of 74 games, and he averages about 2.5 per game for his career. One power play, or a Vancouver team chasing late, could get him to two. We'll still take plus money on a player whose team can't generate shots.
PICK #2: Filip Hronek Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+100)
Hronek plays more than anyone on the Canucks, about 26 minutes a night, and he still has just 11 shots in 11 games. He's had one shot or none in 9 of them, never more than two, and he was blanked in each of his last two (against Tampa Bay and Carolina). He's the defenseman on the top power-play unit, and all six of his points this season are assists.
This one holds up over a longer stretch, too. Last season he had one shot or none in 46 of 82 games, a 56% rate at an average of 1.67 shots a game, and he's well under that pace this season on a team that gets 20.7 shots a night. Even money only asks for 50%.
The danger is a spike game. He put five or more shots on net five times last season, and 26 minutes leaves room for a few point shots to get through. He and Boeser also share a risk. If Vancouver's power play gets going and the Canucks start piling up shots, both bets lose together. We don't see that happening against a Detroit team that should have the puck.
