Thursday Night Football games do not get any bigger than this Week 16 showdown in the 2025 NFL season between the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks. Both teams head into this must-see matchup with identical 11-3 records, so first place in the NFC West is on the line. But that’s not all – whoever wins will also assume the No. 1 overall spot in the conference.

Los Angeles is looking like the best team in the NFC these days – perhaps even the best team in the entire NFL. The Rams have won eight of their last nine games, a stretch featuring victories over four teams that would be in the playoffs if the regular season ended today. That doesn’t even include last week’s 41-34 defeat of Detroit, which is a playoff-caliber squad despite currently checking in at No. 8 in the NFC.

These two division rivals previously squared off in Week 11, when L.A. prevailed 21-19 at home. It induced four interceptions out of Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold and limited the Seahawks to 3.9 yards per rushing attempt. Since their Week 8 bye, the only team with a winning record that the ‘Hawks have beaten is Indianapolis (8-6) - which was playing with a 44-year-old at quarterback (Philip Rivers). Therefore, backing Los Angeles to sweep the season series is the best play.

Stop us if you have heard this story before: the weather is going to be awful in the Pacific Northwest. Yes, as usual, the forecast calls for buckets of rain in Seattle - including on Thursday. That certainly won’t be favorable for either offense. And even in the best of conditions, putting up points on these two defenses is no easy task.

Seattle ranks No. 4 in total defense, No. 2 in points allowed, No. 3 against the run, No. 2 in yards per carry allowed, No. 7 against the pass, No. 1 in yards per pass attempt allowed, No. 4 in sacks, and No. 5 in turnovers forced. Los Angeles is No. 4 in scoring defense, No. 9 against the run, No. 8 in yards per pass attempt allowed, and No. 6 in turnovers forced. They combined for 40 points when they faced each other in L.A., so another relatively low-scoring affair can be expected.

For several reasons, moving the ball through the air may be difficult for Los Angeles – even for a quarterback of Stafford’s caliber. One, the weather is probably going to be atrocious. Two, Seattle’s defense is incredible against the pass. It is allowing a mere 191.4 yards per game through the air on 6.0 yards per attempt. The Seahawks are solid against the run, as well, but not entirely dominant.

Williams should have some openings, just as he did in the Week 11 matchup. He rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown despite getting only 12 carries. Seattle completely dominated the time-of-possession battle by almost 38 minutes to L.A.’s 22 and change. That’s why Williams got only 12 attempts; he can be expected to see much more action in the rematch. The Notre Dame product has already exceeded the 1,000-yard mark this year, and he has run for at least 72 yards in six of the past seven games.
