Pistons vs Cavaliers NBA Playoffs Game 4 Picks

While the Western Conference looks like it’s headed for a swift conclusion this evening, the Eastern Conference Semifinals are giving us the grind-it-out theater we crave. Tonight at 8:00 PM ET on NBC, the Detroit Pistons look to reclaim their stranglehold on this series as they face the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena.

The story so far has been one of discipline versus desperation. Detroit took the first two games with a wear-you-down philosophy that made James Harden look every bit of his 17 seasons. However, Cleveland showed a pulse in Game 3, surviving a Cade Cunningham triple-double thanks to a vintage Harden heater in the closing minutes. The Pistons lead 2-1, and the pressure has shifted back to the top seed.

Pistons vs Cavaliers Game 4 Predictions

Pick #1: Detroit Pistons ML over Cleveland Cavaliers (+140)

Pick #2: Under 213.5 (-115)

Pick #3: Duncan Robinson Over 2.5 Made Threes (-160)

PICK #1: Pistons ML over Cavaliers (+140)

The Cavaliers needed a series of uncharacteristic mistakes from Cade Cunningham (three turnovers in the final three minutes) and a Max Strus steal just to escape Game 3 with a win. Before those final 180 seconds, Detroit looked like the superior, more composed unit, just as they have all series.

Cleveland’s coaching staff is currently leaning on some questionable lineup choices. They are forcing a two-big look with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley that Detroit is consistently exploiting by playing five-out. While Donovan Mitchell has been spectacular, he’s essentially a solo act. James Harden’s Game 3 efficiency (hitting those late step-backs) feels like a mirage when you look at his 9-of-29 shooting and 11 turnovers in the two games prior.

Detroit is deeper, more disciplined and they have the best player on the floor in Cunningham. Getting the top seed at plus-money against a team that’s been too stubborn to adjust some questionable lineups is a gift.

PICK #2: Under 213.5 (-115)

The regular-season series was tied 2-2 with most games decided by four points or fewer. That trend has bled into the postseason, where Detroit’s JB Bickerstaff has turned every possession into a defensive root canal. Game 1 and Game 2 stayed under this total (212 and 204 points, respectively) because the Pistons’ perimeter length effectively bothered Cleveland’s shooters.

Cleveland shot a dismal 7-of-32 from deep in Game 2. While they found their rhythm in Game 3, playoff basketball usually reverts to a slog as a series progresses and teams finalize their scouting reports. With Detroit likely to prioritize ball security after Cade’s eight-turnover night, expect the pace to slow down significantly. The Pistons want to keep this game in the mud, and Cleveland lacks the secondary scoring, especially with Sam Merrill hampered by a hamstring injury, to turn this into a track meet.

PICK #3: Duncan Robinson Over 2.5 Made Threes (-160)

If there is one player the Cavs simply cannot find an answer for, it’s Duncan Robinson. Robinson has been going nuclear because Cleveland’s defensive lapses are a feature, not a bug. When the Cavs rotate to help on Cade Cunningham’s drives, Robinson is consistently left wide open in the corners.

Robinson dropped five triples in Game 2 and has been a primary beneficiary of Cleveland over-committing to the paint. Because the Cavs insist on playing two traditional bigs, their close-out speed on the perimeter is severely compromised. Robinson is moving without the ball at a pace that the Cleveland second unit can't match. As long as J.B. Bickerstaff keeps the green light on, Robinson clearing three triples feels like the safest prop on the board.
