The Florida Panthers (9-6-2) visit the Boston Bruins (12-4-1) at 1:00 PM ET in Boston, a day after losing 4-3 in Washington. That makes this the back half of a road back-to-back, and Florida is short at forward. Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand remain out injured. Anton Lundell is day to day and questionable after missing the Washington game, and Sandis Vilmanis left that one in the first period with an upper-body injury. Boston hasn't played since a 6-2 win at Pittsburgh three days ago, and Jeremy Swayman is expected in goal. We like the rested team at home to win and to score enough doing it, so we're on the Bruins and on Elias Lindholm to get a point.

Panthers vs. Bruins Predictions

  • Pick #1: Bruins Moneyline (-136)
  • Pick #2: Elias Lindholm Over 0.5 Points (+100)

PICK #1: Bruins Moneyline (-136)

Boston has won six straight at home, where it is 7-1-0. It allows 2.35 goals a game, fourth-fewest in the league, and scores 3.71, sixth-most. Florida scores 3.24 and gives up 3.00.

The bigger edge is in net. Swayman, the expected starter, is 8-3-1 with a .913 save percentage. Florida hasn't named a starter after Akira Schmid played in Washington, and for this pick it barely matters: Schmid sits at .886, Jacob Markstrom at .885, and the team has stopped under 88% of the shots it has faced.

The price implies 57.6%. A rested home team with the better goalie, facing a tired and thinned lineup, should clear that. The betting public sees it the same way, with 83% of moneyline bets and 80% of the money on Boston.

What could go wrong is Florida's puck possession. The Panthers outshoot opponents 28.8 to 24.6 a game, Boston gets outshot 27.5 to 26.2, and Florida won all three meetings last season. Swayman also hasn't been confirmed. If Michael DiPietro starts instead, Boston gives back part of its goaltending edge.

PICK #2: Elias Lindholm Over 0.5 Points (+100)

Lindholm has a point in 12 of Boston's 17 games, including each of the last three, with six goals and eight assists. At even money, the Over implies 50%, well below that rate.

He's projected to center the third line between Casey Mittelstadt and Marat Khusnutdinov and to work the first power-play unit with David Pastrnak, Pavel Zacha and Morgan Geekie. Four of his points have come on the power play. He gets a Florida team playing on no rest whose goalies stop under 89% of shots, and if Boston wins the way we expect, Lindholm figures to be part of the scoring.

Florida's penalty kill is the catch. It's working at 85.3%, so most of his chances will come at five-on-five. Boston's lines aren't confirmed either, and the recall of Mikey Eyssimont could shuffle the forwards. Lindholm has been held without a point five times this season, twice in his last ten games.
