Odds as of 7:04 AM ET, Oct 24, 2026

Both teams start backup quarterbacks when Oregon visits Gies Memorial Stadium in Champaign for a 3:00 PM ET kickoff. Oregon (4-2) will be without Dante Moore for a third straight game; he has been out since a concussion on Sept. 26 at USC. Without him the Ducks lost 17-15 at home to UCLA, turning the ball over seven times, and then beat Nebraska 17-14. Dylan Raiola is expected to start, though Dan Lanning hasn't named him, and officially Raiola is still competing with Brock Thomas. Illinois (3-3) hands freshman Michael Clayton II his first career start. Katin Houser fractured his throwing hand in the 38-37 overtime win at Michigan State on Oct. 10 and had surgery, and the Illini are coming off their open week. Every status here comes from the Big Ten's Friday night report.

Oregon was laying 12.5 or more earlier in the week. The spread is down to 10, and the total has slid from the low 50s to 49.5. We expect a tight, low-scoring game that neither offense can break open: Oregon scrapes out a one-score win or Illinois pulls the upset, with something like 20-17 on the board.

Oregon vs. Illinois Predictions

  • Pick #1: Illinois +10 (-112)
  • Pick #2: Under 49.5 (-112)

PICK #1: Illinois +10 (-112)

Oregon has to win by 11 or more, and it hasn't come close to that since Moore went down. The Ducks scored 15 against UCLA and 17 against Nebraska, and those games were decided by two points and three. Against UCLA, Raiola completed 6 of 19 passes for 43 yards with two interceptions before he was pulled. Thomas started against Nebraska and went 9 of 20 for 54 yards, and Oregon finished with 113 passing yards. Raiola came off the bench to lead the winning drives that night, so another short leash is possible.

The receiving room is thinner, too. Four Oregon receivers are listed out: Evan Stewart, Jeremiah McClellan, Jalen Lott and Messiah Hampton. Three offensive linemen are out too: Trent Ferguson, Immanuel Iheanacho and Kawika Rogers. Houser's injury was known before the line opened. The news since has come from Oregon's side, and the spread has come down at least two and a half points.

The -112 price makes Illinois a 52.8% proposition. With the total under 50 and Oregon's offense putting up 15 and 17, a double-digit Oregon win asks the Ducks for something they haven't done without Moore. Illinois is at home after an open week that Bret Bielema said gave his quarterbacks a lot of quality reps, and Clayton went 6 of 8 for 88 yards and two touchdowns in relief at Michigan State. Illinois either won or lost by fewer than 10 in 4 of its 5 games against FBS opponents, though all of those came with Houser at quarterback.

Clayton is the worry. Saturday is his first start, Oregon's defense has allowed 17 and 14 points in its last two games, and Illinois has two offensive linemen listed out. Raiola can also play better than he did against UCLA: he threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns in relief at USC, a 41-27 Oregon win. The prediction models we track average Oregon by 11.3, a little more than this line.

PICK #2: Under 49.5 (-112)

Oregon's last two games totaled 32 and 31 points, with the same quarterbacks who will play Saturday and more receivers than the Ducks will have Saturday. Oregon's defense held UCLA to 17 and Nebraska to 14. Illinois scored 17 against Purdue and 19 at Ohio State in two of its last three games, both with Houser at quarterback, and Clayton makes his first start behind a line missing two players.

At -112, the Under needs to land 52.8% of the time to break even. The total has already dropped from the low 50s, and the Champaign forecast is about 71 degrees with a light southeast wind and no rain, so the weather shouldn't push the score either way.

Illinois' defense is what could break this. The Illini have given up 31, 42 and 37 points in three of their last five games, and their two wins over FBS teams were high-scoring: 38-37 at Michigan State and 42-23 over UAB. Across both teams' last five games against FBS opponents, only 3 of 10 stayed under 49.5. Most of those overs came with Moore and Houser at quarterback, but a defensive or return touchdown could still swing this one.

Both picks need the same game: Oregon's offense stays stuck and the Ducks can't pull away. A 20-17 finish either way cashes both, and an Oregon blowout would likely sink both.
