The Oilers (10-2-2) visit the Rangers (7-6-1) at Madison Square Garden for a 6:00 PM ET puck drop on NHL Network and MSG. New York has lost three straight while allowing 18 goals, and coach Mike Sullivan responded by moving Pavel Dorofeyev up to the top line with Mika Zibanejad and Alexis Lafreniere. We expect the Rangers' offense to run through that line while the two lines behind it stay quiet. That means Gabe Perreault off the scoresheet and J.T. Miller with one shot or none.

New York is -129 and Edmonton is +105, with 86% of the moneyline money and 67% of the bets on the Oilers. The total is 6.5, with the Over at -112. Edmonton is on the second night of a back-to-back with Matt Tomkins expected in goal, and Dylan Garand is projected for New York. Player props may settle differently in overtime at different books.

Oilers vs. Rangers Predictions

  • Pick #1: Gabe Perreault Under 0.5 Points (-175)
  • Pick #2: J.T. Miller Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+130)

PICK #1: Gabe Perreault Under 0.5 Points (-175)

Dorofeyev took Perreault's spot, and Perreault is projected on the third line with Will Cuylle and Noah Laba. Laba has four points in 14 games and Cuylle has eight, so this isn't a line that will carry him. He has one point, a goal, in his last seven games. He's scoreless in 7 of his last 10 and 8 of 14 this season, and all of that came in the top six.

Fourteen games only goes so far, so last season is the better test. He was scoreless in 30 of 49 games, or 61.2%, short of the 63.6% that -175 implies. Most of his production came after he moved up beside Zibanejad late in the year, though, with 19 of his 27 points after the Olympic break. In the 24 games before the break, at about 15 minutes a night, he was scoreless in 17, or 70.8%. That's the closest match to his job tonight.

Tomkins is the main risk. He has six career NHL games and hasn't played in the league since the 2023-24 season. Edmonton's penalty kill is at 74.4%, and Perreault is projected on the second power-play unit. Sullivan likes his game, too, and thinks he'll help any line he's on. The Over is +130. If Tristan Jarry starts instead, the Under gets easier.

PICK #2: J.T. Miller Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+130)

The price is the draw here. Miller has one shot or none in 7 of his last 10 games and 9 of 14 this season, including none at all against New Jersey and Washington, and +130 implies only 43.5%.

That's another thin stretch, and last season doesn't quite clear the number: he stayed under in 28 of 68 games, or 41.2%. So this is a bet that his lower volume is real, and the numbers lean that way. He's at 1.57 shots a game in 18:34 of ice time, down from 2.12 shots in 20:09 last season. He's projected to center Tye Kartye and Oliver Bjorkstrand on the second line, a group one Rangers site said has a grinder feel.

His team doesn't shoot much either. New York averages 24.7 shots a game, fifth fewest in the league, and Edmonton allows 26.2 against a league average near 27.4. The Flames managed 24 shots and the Islanders 18 in the Oilers' last two games. Jarry was in goal for both, but a shot counts no matter who's in net.

The Over is -180, so the market expects two or more. His last game is the warning: six shots in the 6-3 loss to Los Angeles. He's also projected on the top power-play unit, and if New York falls behind early, the whole team will shoot more.
