MLB Wednesday Picks - September 25
We’re in the final week of the MLB regular season and the teams looking to get in the playoffs are jockeying for position as we get to October. We have a full 15-game slate for today with just one afternoon game in Houston where the Astros host the Seattle Mariners. With the evening jam-packed with 14 games, let’s get right into Wednesday’s MLB picks for September 25.
MLB Wednesday predictions
Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115)
St. Louis Cardinals ML over Colorado Rockies (-115)
Chris Sale Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-170)
San Diego Padres vs Los Angeles Dodgers pick - Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115)
We’ll begin our MLB picks for Wednesday with the National League MVP-in-waiting, Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani. I’m not sure what more we can say about Ohtani besides he’s been otherworldly this season with 53 home runs and 55 stolen bases, being the first player in MLB history to break the 50/50 barrier. It would be easy to just sit on those lofty numbers for the rest of the season as the Dodgers coast to the playoffs, but Ohtani is not interested in resting on his laurels.
Anything but, as Ohtani is in the midst of a six-game hitting streak, including his historic game against the Marlins last Thursday where Ohtani put up three home runs and 10 RBI to create the 50/50 club. For this 1.5 total bases prop, Ohtani has gone over in eight of his last 10 games. Ohtani feels like a free square right now and we should be taking full advantage as the Dodgers head to October baseball. We’ll take Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115) tonight and let him launch more baseballs into the gap or over the fence.
Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates pick - Brewers ML (-115)
The next contest we’ll target for Wednesday’s MLB picks is taking a rare road team with the Milwaukee Brewers heading to PNC Park to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Taking the bump for the Brewers is Freddy Peralta, who has been excellent in his last two starts where the Brewers haven’t put up many runs (3) of support, but Peralta has held serve having only given up a combined two earned runs. With the Brewers looking to make a last-gasp effort toward catching the Phillies and Dodgers in the National League race to avoid the Wild Card round.
The Pirates will trot out Luis L. Ortiz to oppose Peralta. Ortiz had two shaky starts against the Nationals and Royals where he gave up seven earned runs in those starts. He followed that up with a solid outing in his last start against the Cardinals, where he went six innings and gave up just two earned in the no-decision. The Pirates are one of the worst teams in the NL in terms of run production. Peralta should be able to keep Pittsburgh in check, so we like the Milwaukee Brewers ML (-115) for tonight.
New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves pick - Chris Sale Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-170)
Our final MLB pick for Wednesday involves the heavy favorite for the National League Cy Young Award, Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves. With a 1.13 ERA in September, Sale is having the second-best month of his season. That seems crazy, but Sale had a 0.57 ERA in May. In four September starts, Sale has just three earned runs allowed and has gone over 17.5 outs recorded in three of four games. Before Sale’s last start where he “only” went five innings, Sale reeled off seven straight starts over 17.5 outs.
With 17.5 Outs Recorded (-170) seeming like an excellent bet to place for tonight’s game at home against the New York Mets, we are going to hammer it as the Braves are in must-win territory towards snagging the final National League Wild Card berth in the 11th hour.
