MLB Wednesday Picks - July 24

It’s Wednesday, and we’re ramping up to the trade deadline in Major League Baseball. With teams jockeying for position in their pennant races and others deciding whether they are buyers or sellers, there is a full 15-game slate on tap for today and tonight, July 24th.

MLB player prop pick: Bobby Witt Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases (-150)

We’ll open our picks for Wednesday with somebody putting up video game numbers over the last week, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals. Entering play on Tuesday, Witt has 12 hits in his previous 15 at-bats, with five of them being extra-base hits with at least three (!) hits in his last four games. Witt has averaged 3.7 total bases in his last 10 games.

Witt and the Royals will face the Arizona Diamondbacks and Ryne Nelson, a wholly league-average pitcher. Witt is anything but average, and frankly, it doesn’t matter who is pitching to him at this point. Ride the wave with Witt and his Over 1.5 Total Bases (-150) prop for tonight.

New York Mets vs New York Yankees best bet: New York Yankees ML (-160)

The next game we’ll target for Wednesday’s MLB picks is the Subway Series matchup at Yankee Stadium this evening between the New York Mets and New York Yankees. The Mets will have lefty Sean Manaea on the bump against the Yankees’ ace, Gerrit Cole. Cole started his abbreviated 2024 campaign a bit rocky with a 9.00 ERA in two starts, but after those starts, he’s settled down with three quality starts and three wins in his last five.

In particular, Cole has shut down the Orioles and Rays to the tune of just one earned run in each start with at least seven strikeouts. He’s rounding into form at the perfect time, with the Yankees being 10-20 in their last 30 games and needing some momentum for the playoff push.

While Manaea is certainly no slouch, we like Cole and the Yankees at home. We’ll take the New York Yankees Money Line (-160) tonight.

MLB player prop pick: Tanner Bibee Over 6.5 Strikeouts Recorded (+115)

Our final best bet for this evening features the Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Guardians matchup in Cleveland and Cleveland’s young right-hander Tanner Bibee. Does this seem like deja vu? That’s because we won with him two weeks ago, where he recorded eight strikeouts against these same Tigers on July 10th.

Why mess with a good thing? Bibee is top 15 in MLB in strikeouts per nine innings, and in his last 12 starting assignments, Bibee has a 2.82 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 70 ⅓ innings. Two weeks ago, we took Bibee’s strikeout prop on the road, but tonight, we get Bibee at home. And as a cherry on top, Bibee has bested his strikeout prop in a whopping seven of nine starts.

We’ll take Tanner Bibee O6.5 Strikeouts (+115) tonight against a lackluster Detroit Tigers lineup.
