While some teams may already be looking ahead to the offseason and others are all but foregone conclusions to make the postseason, weekends are still full of action on the diamond. Best MLB Saturday picks: Houston Astros vs. Boston Red Sox Over XX Runs (-110)

It’s not quite the first game of the day, but one of the afternoon matchups features an intraleague contest between the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox. These teams entered the season with different expectations, but it’s actually the Sox with the better record than the AL West favorites! However, being in an ultra-tough AL East has done Boston no favors.

Regardless, we’re going to be focused on the total to begin our best MLB Saturday picks. First and foremost, the Sox are a top-five team in terms of runs scored this season, and the Astros are still within the top half of the league. They should be able to improve that facing Nick Pivetta on the mound today. We may recognize the name by now, but he’s certainly not having his best season, and he’s pitched 4.2 innings or less in two of his last three starts. That said, we expect both teams to be able to produce runs today.

Speaking of an extremely strong AL East, our best MLB Saturday picks also include two more teams in that division. Of course, the Orioles are among the best while the Rays are one of the bigger disappointments of the 2024 season. However, we’re not just jumping on the O’s bandwagon for the sake of it.

In fact, we faded them during their recent rough stretch (specifically against the San Diego Padres) but they have since righted the ship. That is in large part thanks to ace Corbin Burnes. He’s been an absolute stud, currently holding a 12-4 record. Even when he doesn’t have his best outing, the O’s typically still win - they beat the Cleveland Guardians 9-5 in his last start, who had the best record in the MLB at the time. Now facing a Rays team that needs time just to announce a starter, Baltimore is teed up for another victory.

We’re heading out to the West Coast to close out our best MLB Saturday picks, and it's a long trip across the country for the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, their fans shouldn’t be as nervous for the matchup against the juggernaut Dodgers thanks to ace Paul Skenes taking the mound. It seemed impossible for the rookie to live up to the hype, but he’s done so and more.

The LSU product even started the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, and not only does he look set on winning NL Rookie of the Year, but he’s also one of the top NL Cy Young candidates. There’s no doubt that the Dodgers have plenty of weapons, but this is one case of the opponent having the advantage on the mound. LA is giving River Ryan the start - a rookie who has just three appearances thus far. Pittsburgh may not be a top playoff contender, but they can pull out this victory behind Skenes.
