The Eastern Conference Finals continue tonight with Game 2 between the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers after one of the wildest playoff games we’ve seen this postseason. New York stormed back from a 22-point deficit late in Game 1 before pulling out an overtime win to take a 1-0 series lead.

That comeback could have a lasting impact on Cleveland heading into Game 2, especially considering how well the Knicks have played throughout the playoffs. New York has now gone 9-2 this postseason and continues to look like one of the hottest teams remaining in the field after sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers in the previous round.

PICK #1: Knicks -6.5 over Cavaliers (-110)

The momentum in this series has completely shifted toward New York after that stunning Game 1 comeback. That type of loss can be difficult for any team to recover from mentally, especially this deep into the playoffs. Cleveland looked completely in control for most of the night before everything unraveled late in the fourth quarter. After a slow first three quarters, the Knicks played with confidence on both ends of the floor.

Cleveland had every opportunity to close out the opener but struggled defensively late and looked rattled once the Knicks started making shots. The Cavs star Donovan Mitchell was quiet down the stretch, with his last bucket coming with over eight minutes into the 4th quarter.  With New York already having home-court advantage and carrying all the momentum into Game 2, laying the points feels like the right side here.

Even with overtime in Game 1, the total barely got above this number. That’s important because playoff basketball tends to slow down as series progress, especially in the conference finals, where every possession becomes more valuable.

Both teams are capable defensively, and we expect a much more controlled pace tonight after the chaotic finish in the opener. Cleveland will likely focus on tightening things up defensively after collapsing late in Game 1, while the Knicks are comfortable playing slower half-court basketball as they ranked 25th in the league in pace this season.

Brunson is a tough cover for the Cavs with a backcourt of James Harden and Donovan Mitchell, who both have a lot on their plate offensively. Brunson consistently created space against them and looked extremely comfortable attacking switches in the pick-and-roll. Whether he’s scoring in isolation or creating opportunities for teammates, the Knicks offense continues to run entirely through him in competitive games.

With New York relying heavily on Brunson’s playmaking and scoring during crunch time, another massive workload should be expected tonight. Given the way he controlled Game 1 and the minutes he’s likely to play in another close matchup, backing him to clear this number again makes a lot of sense.
