Two unbeaten teams meet at Moda Center tonight, with tip-off at 10:00 PM ET. Memphis is 4-0 and has covered in all four, most recently with a 110-105 win in Utah. Portland is 3-0 and leads the league at 129.3 points per game. Its last win was 136-129 over the Lakers, with Ja Morant and Deni Avdija scoring 23 apiece, Jrue Holiday adding 22 off the bench and Damian Lillard putting up 21.

We expect a tighter game than the number suggests. Memphis allows 107 points a game, fourth-fewest in the league through four games, and Portland spreads its offense across a deep guard rotation instead of running it through Lillard. If this turns into a grinding, single-digit game, both picks cash.

Portland is -7.5 (-105) and Memphis +7.5 (-115). The moneyline is Portland -282, Memphis +225, and the total is 234.5. On the latest league injury report, Portland lists Shaedon Sharpe out after right meniscus surgery; he hasn't played this season. Four two-way or G League players are questionable, and only two of them, Jayson Kent and Yang Hansen, have played at all, both in the blowout of Phoenix. Memphis has no one on the report.

Grizzlies vs. Trail Blazers Predictions

  • Pick #1: Grizzlies +7.5 (-115)
  • Pick #2: Damian Lillard Under 25.5 Points + Assists (-125)

PICK #1: Grizzlies +7.5 (-115)

Nobody has scored more than 112 on Memphis yet. Its four opponents put up 103, 108, 112 and 105, and the Grizzlies won those games by 20, 3, 11 and 5. The 107 allowed per game ranks fourth-fewest in the league. Portland's two wins over teams other than Phoenix came by 8 at Sacramento and 7 at the Lakers, which is right around this spread.

Memphis has drawn 58% of the spread money on just 30% of the bets. The bigger tickets are on the underdog while most bettors lay the points. At -115, the Grizzlies +7.5 carries a 53.5% implied chance.

Portland is the best offense Memphis has faced, and that's the worry. The Grizzlies have played Utah twice, Sacramento and Golden State, and Utah and Sacramento rank 20th and 27th in scoring. Portland also beat Phoenix by 41, so a margin can get away quickly. Memphis needs this to be a half-court game for the points to hold up.

PICK #2: Damian Lillard Under 25.5 Points + Assists (-125)

Lillard missed last season with a torn Achilles. At 36, he shares the backcourt with Morant and Holiday in a 10-man rotation, and he said before the opener that he's playing more off the ball and won't carry a heavy minutes load. In his last full season, with Milwaukee, he averaged 24.9 points and 7.1 assists in 36.1 minutes. Through three games in Portland he's at 21.7 and 4.0 in 29.3 minutes.

Game by game, his points plus assists have been 31 against Phoenix (25 and 6 in 24 minutes), 21 at Sacramento (19 and 2 in 33) and 25 at the Lakers (21 and 4 in 31). He went over only in the 41-point blowout, when he made six threes. He stayed under in both single-digit games. The playmaking is spread out: Morant has 8, 7 and 4 assists, Holiday had 8 at Sacramento and Avdija had 9 against the Lakers.

At -125, the Under implies 55.6%, with the Over at -106. Three games is a small sample, and Lillard can still catch fire, as the six threes in 24 minutes against Phoenix showed. Still, a close, half-court game against a defense giving up 107 a night should keep the ball moving through Portland's other guards.
