Golden Knights vs Hurricanes 2026 NHL Stanley Cup Finals Game 1 Picks
The Stanley Cup Finals are finally upon us, and we have two worthy teams as the last ones standing in an effort to lift one of the most famous trophies in sports. Representing the Western Conference are the Vegas Golden Knights, who won the Stanley Cup in 2023 and have now appeared in four finals since their inaugural 2017-18 campaign. From the East are the Carolina Hurricanes, who are in the playoffs for an eighth consecutive year after compiling the most points in the conference during the regular season (second-most behind Colorado in the entire NHL).
With Tuesday’s puck drop of Game 1 set for 8:00 PM ET on ABC, it’s time to break down the odds and discuss the best bets to make
Golden Knights vs Hurricanes Game 1 Predictions
Pick #1: Carolina Hurricanes ML over Vegas Golden Knights (-150)
Pick #2: Under 5.5 (-102)
Pick #3: Logan Stankoven (CAR) over 0.5 points (-115)
PICK #1: Hurricanes ML over Golden Knights (-150)
The Golden Knights impressively swept Colorado in the Western Conference Finals, but is a full week off too much? That remains to be seen, but you certainly can’t afford to come out flat against an opponent like Carolina. The Hurricanes may be playing on just the right amount of rest. They lost the opening game of the Eastern Conference Finals against Montreal but hit back with four consecutive victories, wrapping up the series on Friday. That means Carolina is rested but surely not rusty.
Home-ice advantage should be a factor, as well, because the ‘Canes went 29-10-2 at the Lenovo Center during the regular season. Not even the Avalanche came within two of Carolina in the category of home wins. The ‘Canes have lost only once at home during the playoffs, and that was when they were coming off an 11-day layoff in between rounds two and three. It just seems unwise to bet against this team right now – especially in its own friendly confines.
PICK #2: Under 5.5 (-102)
Low-scoring games have been the norm for the Hurricanes throughout this postseason. Their first-round series against the Senators averaged just four goals per game. In round two against the Flyers, no single matchup produced more than five goals. In the conference finals, they held the Canadiens to five goals in total of the last four contests. Meanwhile, Vegas is coming off a series in which it limited a high-powered Avalanche club to a total of seven lamp-lighters in four games. Frederik Andersen of the Hurricanes and Carter Hart of the Golden are in imposing form in front of the net, plus they are getting a ton of help in front of them – Andersen especially. In five games during the Eastern Conference Finals, Montreal managed an anemic 21, 12, 13, 18 and 24 shots on goal.
PICK #3: Logan Stankoven (CAR) over 0.5 points (-115)
Stankoven has been consistently productive throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs, with 12 points (nine goals, three assists) in 13 contests. Following a hot start in round one against Ottawa, the 23-year-old heated back up with two goals and two assists in the last two games of the conference finals. Stankoven has logged at least 16 minutes of ice time in five of the last six outings, so he is getting plenty of opportunities – and making the most of them. The center from British Columbia recorded an assist in the first regular-season meeting between these two teams, and he put two shots on net in each encounter. There is no reason why Stankoven’s impressive play can’t continue even against a solid defensive squad like Vegas.
