The Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes are set for Game 2 of their NHL Eastern Conference semifinals playoff series on Monday night. 

The Hurricanes own a 1-0 series lead after orchestrating a 3-0 shutout victory in Game 1 on Saturday. Carolina is now a perfect 5-0 so far this postseason. 

Puck drop is slated for 7:10 PM ET at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh.

Pick #1 - Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 over Carolina Hurricanes (-130)

Pick #1: Flyers +1.5 over Hurricanes (-130)

The Hurricanes put forth a signature defensive effort in Game 1. They held the Flyers to 19 shots on goal and Frederik Andersen continued his strong postseason play by stopping every single shot he faced. But this Flyers team knows how to be resilient under head coach Rick Tocchet. They won’t go away easily. Down the stretch of the regular season, Philadelphia went 7-1-0 after a loss, and after being held scoreless in Game 1, Tocchet should have an aggressive game plan lined up for Game 2. Looking to avoid an 0-2 hole, look for the Flyers to hang around and give the Hurricanes all they can handle. Plus, Carolina is so heavily favoured that their moneyline and puck line odds are both not worth the squeeze at this time. The value here lies with Philadelphia. 

Pick #2: Under 5.5 (-125)

Both of these teams have grown accustomed to playing low-scoring games in the postseason. So far, the under is a strong 5-1-1 in Philadelphia’s six postseason games and 4-1-0 in Carolina’s five playoff games. Both sides have shown strong defensive structures that limit high-danger chances, and both goaltenders have been outstanding. Philadelphia’s Dan Vladar owns an impressive .928 save percentage to go along with a 1.82 goals-against average, while Carolina’s Frederik Anderson currently sports a .961 save percentage and 0.90 goals-against average. Neither goaltender faced a ton of pressure in Game 1, as Philadelphia totaled just 19 shots on goal and Carolina had just 22 of their own. That defensive pressure puts far less pressure on each goaltender, and tends to result in lower-scoring games. With that in mind, look for Game 5 to produce another low-scoring result. With a total of 5.5, the under is the play. 

Pick #3: Porter Martone anytime goalscorer (+280)

If the Flyers are going to even up this series in Game 2, the offensive attack needs to find a groove. The Flyers have scored just 5 total goals over their last 4 games, and not surprisingly, they have dropped 3 of those 4 contests. Porter Martone burst onto the scene with goals in Game 1 and 2 against the Penguins, but has been quiet since. Still, he remains the only Flyer with multiple goals to his name so far this postseason. He remains on Philadelphia’s top line playing alongside Trevor Zegras and Alex Bump, and he is currently stationed on the second power play unit. But as the Flyers look for an offensive spark, don’t be surprised if Martone gets bumped to the first unit at some point. Philadelphia needs an offensive spark in the worst possible way, and Martone could be the one to deliver.
