The Mavericks visit the streaking Suns in Phoenix on Thursday night and the two teams have both been dealing with crippling injuries this season. However, the Suns are getting healthy and the Mavs are struggling mightily without star big man Christian Wood.

Christian Wood has now missed three games with his thumb injury and the Mavs have lost two of those. It doesn’t sound like Wood will be back for this one and even when he was healthy and playing well, the Mavs were struggling. They’re just 3-8 over their last 11 games after winning seven straight from Dec. 21 to Jan. 2.

Luka Doncic is doing as much as he can on Luka Island but it still hasn’t been enough. Doncic is averaging 32.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7.6 assists (50.2 PAR) in January and has failed to top his 53.5 PAR in each of his last five games. Yes, he’s due to eventually hit it again and the Suns rank near the bottom of the league in stopping opposing point guards so tonight could be the night. But it’s certainly not a lock. Spencer Dinwiddie is doing what he can to help, scoring at least 20 points in five of his last six games and had 19 points in the other one. The season series is tied 1-1 and Luka is averaging 34 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists (48.5 PAR) in those two games.

The Suns are getting healthy again as Cam Johnson, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton are all finally off the injury report for the Suns. However, Devin Booker is still out with his groin injury and will be re-evaluated in a week. With the health has come a four-game winning streak and Johnson has really given them a boost, averaging 17 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 3-pointers on 53 percent shooting in his three January games. Chris Paul had 14 points and 11 assists in Tuesday’s win over the Hornets, Johnson scored 24 in that one, and Mikal Bridges added 18 points, two rebounds and three assists in that one. Deandre Ayton was out with an illness for that one but should be back tonight. Bridges is having a fun January, averaging 18.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists (27.6 PAR) so his 24.5 over/under doesn’t seem all that fair.

Top performing Oddscrowd bettor Rawluciano likes the Mavericks Moneyline tonight but we just don’t trust them without Wood, as Luka’s having trouble continuing to do it all by himself.

Pick: Suns -1.5

Prop 1: Luka Doncic Over 53.5 points, rebounds and assists

Prop 2: Mikal Bridges Over 24.5 points, rebounds and assists

Prop 3: Cam Johnson Over 14.5 points
