Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season will conclude with a Monday Night Football matchup between two playoff teams from a season ago. The action kicks off at 8:15 PM ET on ESPN with the Kansas City Chiefs playing host to the Washington Commanders. The Commanders have lost back-to-back games heading into this one, while the Chiefs enter this one following a couple of dominant victories. Which team will come out on top at Arrowhead Stadium? At this point, the struggles we saw from the Chiefs early on in the season seem to be a thing of the past. In fact, while Kansas City is currently not in the AFC playoff field if the season ended today, the Chiefs are still just 1.5 games back of the lead in the AFC West. Patrick Mahomes and company certainly look a lot more like the team that has won multiple Super Bowls in recent weeks, and it all starts with their improvements on offense. 

Heading into Week 8, the Chiefs’ offense ranks second across the NFL in both EPA per play and success rate, while sitting inside the top 10 in total touchdowns per SumerSports. The same can’t be said of the Commanders, as Washington is sputtering of late while also dealing with a rash of injuries, including the absence of quarterback Jayden Daniels. This turmoil doesn’t bode well against a Kansas City defense that has gotten back on track, surrendering just 17 points over the last two weeks in dominant wins over the Lions and Raiders. Look for the Chiefs to win their third straight home game by double digits in front of their home fans.

Given the fact that this line is currently sitting over the key number of 48, our lean for the game total is on the under. For starters, Washington’s offense is going to be compromised with Daniels at quarterback, as Marcus Mariota is a significant downgrade on that front. Additionally, the Chiefs' defense has made major strides in recent weeks and should continue to play well at home. With that in mind, it’s hard to see the Commanders putting up many points, so even if Kansas City gets 30 points of its own, this one should still stay under.

While he wasn’t quite in MVP form at the start of the season, Mahomes has been rolling of late and is once again in the midst of a great season under center. The Chiefs quarterback has 14 touchdown passes on the year to just two interceptions, and his record of clean football should continue on Monday. Mahomes has historically played very well at home, and he’s put up 10 touchdowns to zero interceptions over his last three games at Arrowhead. As long as the Texas Tech product has time to throw, he should play mistake-free football in a friendly setting.
