The Cardinals (2-5) visit the Cowboys (3-4) at AT&T Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on Fox, with Dallas favored by 7. We expect plenty of scoring, with Dallas ahead but unable to put this away. Arizona allows 29.7 points a game, the most in the league, and 8.5 yards per pass attempt, the second most, so Dallas should score and Arizona has to keep throwing to Trey McBride to stay in it. Dallas allows 25.7 points and more rushing yards than anyone, so Arizona can answer, and a live score keeps Dak Prescott throwing back. That's the Over, McBride's catches and Prescott's passing yards.

Cardinals vs. Cowboys Predictions

  • Pick #1: Over 54.5 (-110)
  • Pick #2: Trey McBride Over 7.5 Receptions (-123)
  • Pick #3: Dak Prescott Over 270.5 Passing Yards (-113)

PICK #1: Over 54.5 (-110)

Dallas has allowed at least 20 points in all seven games, and nobody gives up more on the ground than its 145.7 rushing yards a game. Jeremiyah Love comes back into that matchup after two missed games, still Arizona's leading rusher by far with 67 carries for 245 yards. Dallas scores 27 a game.

Arizona has moved the ball better than its recent scores suggest. It scored 18 and 16 in its last two games while going 1-for-10 on red-zone touchdowns, after going 9-for-13 in the four games before that. Coach Mike LaFleur's defense of his offense was that it got inside the 10 ten times in those two games. Turn a few of those field goals into touchdowns and this number is in range.

-110 implies 52.4%. These teams' games have gone past it in 7 of 14: 66 against Detroit, 60 against the Giants and 66 against San Francisco for Arizona, then 59 at Philadelphia, 64 at Houston, 65 against Baltimore and 57 against Washington for Dallas. Seven games apiece is a short run, and the recent ones have been quieter. Arizona's last two totaled 34 and 46, and Dallas played games of 40 and 36 before Philadelphia. The Over is also the popular side, with 81% of the money on 69% of the bets. Then there's Arizona's line: two starters are on injured reserve, Jon Gaines II is out and center Hjalte Froholdt is questionable with a knee injury. If that group stalls, field goals sink this.

PICK #2: Trey McBride Over 7.5 Receptions (-123)

Both of McBride's misses this season landed on exactly seven. His game log reads 9, 8, 9, 7, 9, 7 and 10, his 59 catches lead the league, and he has at least 10 targets in six of seven games. Five wins in seven beats the 55.2% that -123 implies.

There's less competition for the ball now. Marvin Harrison Jr. was traded to Houston, and Jalen Brooks, who took his spot, is on injured reserve with a wrist injury. LaFleur says that job will be filled "by committee." In the three games since Harrison last played for Arizona, McBride caught 9, 7 and 10, the 10 going for 111 yards and a touchdown against Denver. A 7-point underdog in a game with this many points in it should mean a lot of Jacoby Brissett dropbacks.

That's only seven games, though, and last season he reached eight catches in only 8 of 17, so you're betting on the current role. Love's return gives Arizona a reason to run early, before it has to chase. With a thin line, McBride could also be asked to help block: LaFleur complained about the chip-blocking against Denver, and McBride took that on himself. Brissett has thrown every Arizona pass this season, and if he doesn't start, these numbers stop applying.

PICK #3: Dak Prescott Over 270.5 Passing Yards (-113)

Arizona has allowed 17 touchdown passes, the most in the league, at 8.5 yards per attempt. Opponents have attempted only 201 passes against it, which is why its per-game yardage looks ordinary. At 8.5 a throw, Prescott gets here on 32 attempts, and he averages 39.

He's cleared 270.5 in four of seven games, with 279, 276, 335 and 316, and -113 implies 53.1%. Those games took 31 to 45 attempts, which is the link to the Over: if Arizona keeps scoring, Dallas keeps throwing. The Cowboys have called pass plays 66.4% of the time. George Pickens is expected to play after shoulder and hamstring injuries limited him in practice.

This loses the way last week went. Dallas ran 38 times for 204 yards at Philadelphia, 155 of them by Javonte Williams, and Prescott threw 27 passes for 212. A big early Dallas lead brings that game back. His own 6.8 yards per attempt would take about 40 throws, and he went over this number in only 7 of 17 games last season, so the price depends on this matchup more than his record. Prescott isn't on the injury report.
