The action kicks off at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN with the Detroit Lions playing host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a matchup between a couple of teams that are vying for the top seed in the NFC. The Lions suffered their second loss of the season to the Chiefs a week ago, while the Bucs enter this one following yet another comeback victory over the 49ers at home in Week 6.

The Buccaneers have been a tricky matchup for the Lions in recent seasons, but Detroit is in a great spot to bounce back at home following a disappointing performance against the Chiefs a week ago. Dan Campbell’s squad has routinely averaged over 30 points per game at home in recent seasons and the Lions have already tallied 52 and 34 points at Ford Field in 2025. Jared Goff and company should be in position to succeed against a Buccaneers defense that is comfortably a bottom-10 unit in football against the pass, while sitting at 21st in success rate.
Although Detroit has some issues on defense, including a couple of injuries in the secondary, the Lions should be able to score enough to outpace a banged-up Buccaneers offense at home. Tampa Bay is also due for some significant turnover regression, so this could be a game where we see Baker Mayfield turn the ball over following a pretty improbable run of turnover-worthy throws without an interception. Look for the Lions to control the line of scrimmage and win by at least a touchdown.

This is a game that should feature plenty of points, especially considering the advantages both offenses should hold in this one. As previously mentioned, Detroit’s offense presents a tough matchup for the Buccaneers, with Tampa Bay’s defense having struggled to stop every competent offense its faced this season. Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown and company are going to be able to make plays in space and as long as Jared Goff plays a clean game, the Lions should be in scoring position throughout the contest.
On the other side, the Bucs offense has been consistently strong all season, regardless of the health of their wide receivers. In fact, Tampa Bay has scored 23 or more points in five of their first six games to this point. We can expect Mayfield and this offense to keep things rolling against a Detroit defense that has pretty middling metrics and is dealing with some injuries. While he wasn’t quite in top form a week ago, Goff is once again in the midst of a great season under center. The Lions quarterback has 14 touchdown passes on the year to just two interceptions. Goff has historically played a lot better at home, and if the veteran quarterback is able to throw from a clean pocket for most of the evening, he should play mistake-free football in a friendly dome setting.
