The Browns (5-2) visit the Steelers (5-2) at Acrisure Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on CBS with first place in the AFC North at stake. Cleveland won the first meeting 27-24, and Pittsburgh is a 3.5-point favorite with a total around 39. We expect a tight, low-scoring Steelers win where Aaron Rodgers throws short against Cleveland's man coverage and Deshaun Watson's deep shots run into the secondary with the most pass breakups in the league. That points to Denzel Boston under his catch line, with Jaylen Warren and Germie Bernard over their receiving yardage lines.

Rodgers and Watson have started every game. Cleveland right tackle Tytus Howard has cleared concussion protocol, and Pittsburgh receiver Ben Skowronek is questionable. The forecast is mostly cloudy, high near 68, with light wind.

Browns vs. Steelers Predictions

  • Pick #1: Denzel Boston Under 3.5 Receptions (-162)
  • Pick #2: Jaylen Warren Over 21.5 Receiving Yards (-109)
  • Pick #3: Germie Bernard Over 42.5 Receiving Yards (-113)

PICK #1: Denzel Boston Under 3.5 Receptions (-162)

Boston has 20 catches on 42 targets, at 18.6 yards a catch. Through six games his 16.45 air yards per target led receivers with at least 15 catches. Long throws miss a lot, as they did at Tennessee, where he caught three of eight targets with several overthrows. His catches, newest first, go 3, 1, 3, 4, 2, 5 and 2. That's under 3.5 in five of seven, against the 61.8% that -162 implies. This isn't a cheap price, and seven games is all a rookie has to go on.

Pittsburgh makes the deep ball harder still. Its 45 pass breakups lead the league, and Watson has completed 29.2% of his deep attempts. The short throws have other places to go. KC Concepcion leads the team with 30 catches, and Pittsburgh gives up 40.7 receiving yards a game to running backs, fifth most.

A Pittsburgh lead shouldn't change much here: Cleveland has been tied or behind in the fourth quarter of every game, and Boston is still under in five of seven. The danger is volume. He had four catches for 89 yards on seven targets in the first meeting, and Howard's return gives Watson better protection on long throws.

PICK #2: Jaylen Warren Over 21.5 Receiving Yards (-109)

Warren has cleared this line in all seven games, with 27, 34, 49, 33, 87, 28 and 36 yards and at least four targets each time. The 87 includes an 80-yard catch, and it is only seven games, but the line sits at about half his 42-yard average, at a price that implies 52.2%.

He fits how Pittsburgh moves the ball. Cleveland plays as much man coverage as anyone and played it on Pittsburgh's receivers on most of Rodgers' dropbacks in the first meeting. Rodgers gets the ball out quickly, with only three offenses faster, and he had just two completions travel more than five yards downfield last week. "Definitely want him to touch the football," coach Mike McCarthy said of Warren, who caught three passes for 33 yards on six targets against Cleveland.

The best argument against this is that the Browns allow 20 receiving yards a game to running backs, fourth fewest. Warren beat that number by himself in the first meeting, but the Browns are keying on him. Rico Dowdle also caught six passes in Paris, though Warren has out-snapped him 95 to 49 over the last two games.

PICK #3: Germie Bernard Over 42.5 Receiving Yards (-113)

Bernard has been a different player since Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson went on injured reserve. He has played 92%, 94% and 91% of the snaps in the last three games and leads the Steelers with a 27% target share. His yardage in those games is 80, 87 and 27, so he's over this line in two of just three games, and -113 implies 53.1%.

His job fits the short passing game. Over those three games he has run 53.9% of his routes from the slot, averaging 2.49 yards per route there and 0.63 outside, and 21.6% of his targets have come behind the line of scrimmage. Cleveland's attention is on DK Metcalf, who had 115 yards in the first meeting, and safety Grant Delpit said the Browns have to take him out of the game. Skowronek has played no more than 21% of the offensive snaps in any game, so his return wouldn't take much from Bernard.

The risk is another game like Paris, where Pittsburgh threw 28 targets and Bernard had three catches for 27 yards. Man coverage is also aimed at receivers like him. He had two catches for 11 yards in the first meeting, though he played only 40% of the snaps. In Week 2, his one earlier game with most of the snaps, he had four catches for 35 yards on eight targets.
