Denver (4-2) heads to the desert on a two-game winning streak, with 10 days of rest since it beat Seattle 17-14. Arizona (2-4) is coming off its best result of the year, an 18-16 win at the Rams as a 12.5-point underdog, built on six field goals and a string of long, clock-draining drives. Kickoff is Sunday at 4:05 PM ET at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on CBS.

The line has come a long way toward Arizona. Denver opened as a 7.5-point favorite. Then Arizona won in Los Angeles, Denver beat Seattle by three, and the consensus now sits at Broncos -4.5 (-110), with Denver -225 on the moneyline and Arizona +185. The total opened at 43.5 and hasn't budged: Over -105, Under -115.

The game we expect looks like this. Arizona's defense allows as many points as anyone in the league, and it's playing without defensive tackle Walter Nolen III, so Denver should find the 20s, mostly on the ground and through its main targets. Arizona answers with the same long drives it ran at the Rams, built around Trey McBride, and it finishes in the mid-40s, something like 24-20 Denver. All three picks cash in that game.

Arizona has also ruled out starting right guard Jon Gaines II, running back Jeremiyah Love and safety Andrew Wingard, so Hayden Conner makes his first career start. Denver is without safety Talanoa Hufanga, and cornerback Pat Surtain II is questionable after missing the last two games. Jacoby Brissett and Bo Nix are expected to start at quarterback, and neither is on his team's final injury report. Larry Fitzgerald goes into the Cardinals' Ring of Honor at halftime.

Broncos vs. Cardinals Predictions

  • Pick #1: Over 43.5 (-105)
  • Pick #2: Trey McBride Over 6.5 Receptions (-149)
  • Pick #3: Adam Trautman Under 0.5 Receiving Yards (-127)

PICK #1: Over 43.5 (-105)

Arizona gives up 29.67 points a game, tied with New Orleans for the most in the league, and its pass defense has allowed the most touchdown passes (16), the highest passer rating (116.5) and the most yards per attempt (8.6). And this week they lose Nolen, who played 60% of the defensive snaps against the Rams before hurting his ankle in that game. Denver had extra time to prepare, and its coaches spent the week talking about running the ball and about playing the second half the way they've played the first.

Arizona can carry its half of the number. The Cardinals lead the league with 17 drives of 10 or more plays and rank fourth in time of possession. Those drives haven't ended in touchdowns as often as they'd like, and Arizona scores 21 points a game, 24th in the league, but its last five games produced totals of 34, 66, 60, 66 and 38.

At -105, the Over carries a 51.2% implied probability. The total has sat at 43.5 since it opened, and some books are dealing 42.5 if you shop.

Denver is the risk. Four of the Broncos' last five games stayed under 43.5, and the only one that went over was the 30-26 win against the Rams. Denver scores 19 points a game (26th) and allows 20.83 (tied for 10th). Arizona went 0-for-5 in the red zone against the Rams, and playing without Gaines won't help it finish drives. Across the two teams' last 10 games, the total cleared 43.5 four times. The public is on the other side, too: 71% of the bets and 76% of the money on the total are on the Under.

PICK #2: Trey McBride Over 6.5 Receptions (-149)

McBride has caught at least seven passes in every game this season: 9, 8, 9, 7, 9 and 7, opener to the Rams game. His 49 catches are tied for the league lead, and he has seen between 9 and 13 targets every week.

Arizona's offense runs through its tight ends. The tight end room leads the league in catches, and the Cardinals have set franchise records for snaps with three tight ends on the field in back-to-back weeks. The long drives the Over needs are built on McBride's short catches. The price is -149, a 59.8% implied chance, and he hasn't missed this number yet.

The concern is volume, since Denver's defense allows 20.83 points a game, tied for 10th, and if it gets Arizona off the field early, McBride gets fewer chances. This also assumes Brissett starts and keeps feeding him the way he has all season.

PICK #3: Adam Trautman Under 0.5 Receiving Yards (-127)

Trautman is in Denver's lineup to block. He has played between 37% and 65% of the offensive snaps in every game, so he's on the field plenty, but the ball doesn't come his way. His last catch came in the opener at Kansas City, where he had 10 yards, and he hasn't had one in the five games since. Evan Engram has caught at least one pass in five of the six games, so the tight end targets go elsewhere.

The Under costs -127, which implies 55.9%. It also fits the game we expect: if Denver leans on the run against a defense missing Nolen, Trautman spends even more of the afternoon blocking while the backs and Denver's other receivers handle the scoring.

A single red-zone throw to a tight end beats it, and Arizona has given up the most touchdown passes in the league. Three of Nix's six touchdown passes have gone to tight ends, though none to Trautman. If he's inactive, the bet is usually voided.
