Memphis brings a 2-0 record into Golden 1 Center for a 9:00 PM ET tip against a Sacramento team still looking for its first win. The Grizzlies beat Utah 123-103 behind 45 points from Ty Jerome, then came from 12 points down in the final four minutes to win 111-108 at Golden State on Friday, closing on a 17-0 run. Cameron Boozer hit the go-ahead jumper there and finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Sacramento lost 121-96 to the Clippers in its opener and 128-120 at home to Portland, even with 27 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists from Domantas Sabonis.

Memphis is without Zach Edey, who started both games and is listed out on the league's injury report (left ankle injury management). The Grizzlies also play at Utah on Monday, so this is the first night of a back-to-back. Cedric Coward (wrist) is questionable for Memphis and Keegan Murray (ankle) is questionable for Sacramento. Memphis opened -3.5 and has moved to -4.5 (-110), with the moneyline at -180 and +145. The total opened at 236.5 and hasn't budged.

We expect a close, grinding game. Memphis is missing its starting center and has another game the next night, and the Kings' offense has struggled. The Grizzlies can win this, but by a basket or so, with the total landing in the 220s or low 230s. Both picks cash in that game.

Grizzlies vs. Kings Predictions

  • Pick #1: Kings +4.5 (-110)
  • Pick #2: Under 236.5 (-115)

PICK #1: Kings +4.5 (-110)

Memphis is shorthanded on a tough night. Edey started both of the Grizzlies' games at center and grabbed 9 and 10 rebounds, and projected lineups have Isaiah Stewart, who played 16 minutes on Friday, starting in his place. Memphis plays at Utah on Monday, and its last win took a 17-0 run in the final minutes after trailing Golden State by 12. Winning by five on the road in that spot is a big ask.

Most of the spread tickets are on the Grizzlies (56%), yet 64% of the money is on the Kings from only 43% of the bets. DRatings' model has Memphis winning by less than three points, inside this number, and some books hang Sacramento +5.5. The -110 price implies a 52.4% chance.

The Kings' own results are what give us pause. They lost by 25 to the Clippers and by 8 to Portland, so they haven't covered 4.5 in either game, and the spread has moved a point toward Memphis since it opened. 81% of the moneyline bets are on the Grizzlies. Murray, who started both Kings games, is questionable, and so is Coward for Memphis. If Murray sits, Sacramento loses a starter and this gets thinner.

PICK #2: Under 236.5 (-115)

Sacramento has averaged 108 points over its two games, fifth-fewest in the league. The Kings scored 96 in the opener and never led, with Darius Acuff Jr. going 5-of-24 and Murray 1-of-8. Memphis has allowed 105.5 per game, also fifth-fewest, holding Utah to 103 and Golden State to 108. Two games apiece isn't much to go on, but three of the four games these teams have played finished under 236.5: Memphis' at 226 and 219, and Sacramento's loss to the Clippers at 217.

On the total, 66% of the money sits on the Under from only 28% of the bets. The number opened at 236.5 and is still there, and some books have 237.5. At -115, which implies 53.5%, we'll take a tired Memphis team without its center in a slower, lower-scoring game.

Sacramento's defense could wreck it. The Kings and Blazers combined for 248 on Friday, with Acuff scoring 33, Zach LaVine 22 and Sabonis 27, and Sacramento has given up 121 and 128. Coward and Murray are both questionable.
