Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. Arkansas Prediction, Men's College Basketball Odds & Best Bets (11/3)

Fact checked at 6:46 AM ET, Nov 3, 2026
Odds as of 6:43 AM ET, Nov 3, 2026
No. 12 Arkansas opens its season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 8:00 PM ET at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville. We expect Arkansas to play fast, score a lot and win easily. We also expect that pace and a deep bench to hand the Golden Lions enough possessions to keep the margin under 39, which is why we're on Arkansas-Pine Bluff +38.5 and the Over.
The sample is tiny. Neither team has played a regular-season game, Arkansas-Pine Bluff played no public exhibitions, and John Calipari returns one player from last season's rotation, Billy Richmond, alongside 10 newcomers, eight of them freshmen. The results from last season cited below tell you about the coach and the program, not these rosters. No starting lineups are out yet. In its last exhibition, Arkansas started Jordan Smith, Jeremiah Wilkinson, Richmond, Miikka Muurinen and Cooper Bowser.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. Arkansas Predictions
- Pick #1: Arkansas-Pine Bluff +38.5 (-110)
- Pick #2: Over 163.5 (-110)
PICK #1: Arkansas-Pine Bluff +38.5 (-110)
Calipari's Arkansas hardly ever won by this much last season. Seven teams from outside the power conferences came to Fayetteville, and only one, Jackson State, lost by more than 38.5 (115-61). The season opener against another SWAC team, Southern, ended 109-77. The other margins in that group ranged from one point to 37.
This roster splits minutes. Nine players averaged at least 17 minutes across the two exhibitions, and Richmond topped the group at 26.2. Calipari went that deep in close games against Gonzaga and Memphis, so he has little reason to keep his starters out there once this one is decided, with No. 9 Virginia up next in Washington, D.C., later in the week. Wilkinson said the team can't "look past any team." Still, a nine-man rotation built mostly on freshmen isn't the type to chase a 40-point margin late.
The danger is plain enough. Arkansas-Pine Bluff lost by 44 at Washington and by 46 at SMU last season, and it was picked 11th of 12 in the SWAC. If the Golden Lions go cold early, this gets away. At -110 (52.4% implied), we think the number already accounts for most of that.
PICK #2: Over 163.5 (-110)
Mismatches involving these two programs tended to fill up the scoreboard last season. Five of Arkansas's seven home games against teams outside the power conferences went over 163.5, among them 186 points against Southern and 176 against Jackson State. Arkansas-Pine Bluff's trips to power-conference teams produced 164 points at Oklahoma, 179 at Vanderbilt and 166 at SMU. Only the 94-50 loss at Washington came up well short.
Local beat coverage expects this Arkansas team to "play fast and be in-your-face on defense." A team that pressures the ball forces turnovers, and turnovers mean quick baskets. A nine-man bench also keeps the tempo up after the starters come out.
This pick asks the same thing of Arkansas-Pine Bluff that the spread does: score. If the Golden Lions get stuck in the 50s, as they did at Washington, Arkansas has to carry the total almost by itself, and season openers can get sloppy. The -110 price implies 52.4%.
