Texas A&M (4-4, 1-4 SEC) visits No. 21 South Carolina (5-3, 3-3) at 3:00 PM ET at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. South Carolina is a 6.5-point favorite and the total is 52.5. The Gamecocks have won three straight: Florida, Tennessee, then 42-25 at Oklahoma. The Aggies come off a bye after a 31-20 loss at Alabama, a game they led 20-17 going into the fourth quarter. They're 0-3 on the road and scored 6 points at LSU and 6 at Missouri.

Everything here goes through LaNorris Sellers. He accounted for five touchdowns at Oklahoma, three passing and two rushing, and South Carolina leads the SEC at 217.5 rushing yards per game. Running back Matt Fuller is out after a lower-leg injury at Oklahoma that needed surgery, which puts even more of the offense on Sellers. Texas A&M has seven sacks all season, fewest in the SEC. Sellers should get real yardage on the ground and have time to throw downfield, and both picks come out of that game. The forecast is sunny and near 70 degrees at kickoff with little wind.

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Predictions

  • Pick #1: LaNorris Sellers 49+ Rushing Yards (-129)
  • Pick #2: DJ Black 30+ Receiving Yards (-189)

PICK #1: LaNorris Sellers 49+ Rushing Yards (-129)

With Fuller gone, Sellers is the run game. He was already South Carolina's leading rusher, and he has reached 49 yards in five of his seven games against FBS teams: 52 against Mississippi State, 72 at Alabama, 147 against Kentucky, 96 against Tennessee and 96 at Oklahoma. He carried at least 13 times in each of those. One miss was the 57-0 opener against Kent State, where he ran twice for 1 yard. The other was 20 at Florida, on a day he threw four touchdown passes. Count the 119 he ran for against FCS Towson and he's six of eight.

College rushing totals count sacks against the quarterback, and that's where this matchup helps. Texas A&M ranks 11th in the SEC against the run and has seven sacks in eight games, so Sellers shouldn't give many yards back in the pocket. He has cleared this number all season at a better rate than the 56.3% that -129 implies.

Up front, South Carolina's offensive line is without Josiah Thompson, Dayne Arnett and Seth Smith, all out on the latest SEC report. Texas A&M also held Alabama to 68 yards on 28 carries last time out, and Jabree Coleman, who ran for 62 yards at Oklahoma after Fuller went down, will take his share of carries.

PICK #2: DJ Black 30+ Receiving Yards (-189)

Black doesn't catch many passes, but his catches go a long way. He averages 22 yards a reception (330 yards on 15 catches) and has 30 or more in five of his seven games: 62 against Kent State, 66 against Kentucky, 42 at Florida, 48 against Tennessee and 84 at Oklahoma. The Oklahoma number came on one catch, a third-and-long touchdown that was South Carolina's longest pass play in more than a decade.

A pass rush with seven sacks lets Sellers wait for the deep route to open. Alabama threw for 311 yards against Texas A&M in that same game. Receiver Jayden Sellers is out, and Nyck Harbor came off the bench at Oklahoma, so Black stays among the first reads.

This is the more expensive pick. At -189 the market has it at 65.4%, and Black's 71% season rate clears that by only a few points. The concern is how few balls come his way. A minor injury kept him out against Towson, he was held without a catch against Mississippi State in his first game back, and he had 28 yards on two catches at Alabama. When a receiver gets two or three catches a game, one broken-up deep ball can decide it, and Mazeo Bennett, who scored from 79 yards at Oklahoma, is after the same throws. Everything here needs Sellers at quarterback. He's on track to start and isn't on the availability report.
