No. 24 Oklahoma State (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) visits Iowa State (3-4, 1-3) at 7:00 PM ET at Jack Trice Stadium on FOX. We expect Drew Mestemaker to carve up a shorthanded Cyclones defense, so we're betting his yards and a touchdown for each of the two receivers who have caught 13 of his 20 touchdown passes.

Oklahoma State is a 9.5-point favorite with the total at 58.5. The Cowboys have scored 30 or more in six straight games. Iowa State has lost its last two by a combined 63-13 and hasn't scored more than 17 in any of its four losses, which should keep giving Mestemaker possessions. Jaylen Raynor, pulled during the Arizona loss, was named the starter again, and backup Connor Moberly is listed Out. Mestemaker, Justin Bowick and Wyatt Young aren't on the Big 12's latest availability report. The kickoff forecast is cloudy and about 62 degrees, with a 5 mph wind and a slight chance of showers.

Oklahoma State vs. Iowa State Predictions

  • Pick #1: Drew Mestemaker 290+ Passing Yards (-150)
  • Pick #2: Justin Bowick Anytime TD (-135)
  • Pick #3: Wyatt Young Anytime TD (-110)

PICK #1: Drew Mestemaker 290+ Passing Yards (-150)

Mestemaker has thrown for at least 300 yards in six straight games: 317 against Oregon, 324 against FCS Murray State, 389 at West Virginia, 304 against UCF, 365 at Houston and 386 against Colorado. He gets there efficiently. The 389 took 27 attempts and the 304 took 28, and at his season average of 9.7 yards per attempt, 30 throws would clear this number.

Iowa State just gave up 329 passing yards to BYU on 30 attempts and 336 to Arizona on 37. It has 10 sacks in seven games, and cornerback Beni Ngoyi and defensive linemen Caden Crawford, Ka'Mori Moore and Bryson Lamb are all listed Out. We like that matchup at -150, which implies 60%.

He cleared 290 in only 7 of 14 games at North Texas last season, though he's done it in 12 of his last 16 going back to that year, and he threw 49 times for just 241 at Tulsa. Utah and West Virginia ran for 205 and 291 against Iowa State while throwing for 206 and 227. Oklahoma State could copy that plan with Caleb Hawkins, who carried 31 times at West Virginia, and a big lead could bring in backup Broderick Vehrs, who threw passes against Colorado and Murray State.

PICK #2: Justin Bowick Anytime TD (-135)

Bowick doesn't need a big yardage day to score. He had 27 yards at Houston and 63 at West Virginia and found the end zone in both. He has scored in five straight games, one of them against Murray State, and in six of seven this season, with 7 touchdowns on 34 catches for 607 yards. The only miss was Oregon, when he had 81 yards.

At 6-foot-5 he's the tallest of the listed receivers and the only one with a starting spot to himself on the depth chart. Iowa State has allowed 31 or more in three of its four Big 12 games, and -135 implies 57.4%. Tight end Carson Kolb, who has two touchdown catches, is listed Out with a foot injury, but coach Eric Morris called Oscar Hammond probably the team's best pass-catching tight end, so those looks won't all go to Bowick.

This production is new. Last season at Illinois he had five touchdowns on 22 catches in 12 games. William Mason and Tre Page III each ran one in against Colorado, so the backs can take a score away too.

PICK #3: Wyatt Young Anytime TD (-110)

This is the best price of the three, at an implied 52.4%, on a receiver who has scored in six straight games since going without one at Tulsa. Young leads Oklahoma State with 36 catches, 639 yards and 6 touchdowns, including 192 yards at West Virginia and 121 against Oregon.

He and Bowick have both scored in each of the last five games, so one's touchdown hasn't come at the other's expense. Hawkins has just two rushing touchdowns on 142 carries, and Mestemaker's arm has done most of the finishing.

Young shares the Y receiver spot with Miles Coleman on the depth chart, and his volume can drop: one catch for 13 yards against Murray State and five for 52 against UCF, though he scored both times. Last season at North Texas he scored in 7 of 14 games, so six straight is running ahead of his longer record.
