Miami vs. Florida Prediction, Men's College Basketball Odds & Best Bets (11/2)

Odds as of 8:46 AM ET, Nov 2, 2026
No. 1 Florida and No. 14 Miami open their seasons at 6:00 PM ET on ESPN2 at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, a neutral floor. Florida is a 5.5-point favorite, and we think it gets there the way it won last season, with size and rebounding rather than shooting. We expect a physical, half-court opener in which Florida's frontcourt wins the glass and the game by something like 8 to 12, with the score finishing in the 150s. So we're on Florida -5.5 and the Under.
This is both teams' first real game, which leaves last season's numbers, preseason projections, exhibitions and what the coaches have said. The starting fives we're working from are projected, not posted. Florida point guard Boogie Fland missed the final exhibition with headaches and is expected back. Miami forward Malik Reneau, who won a court injunction for a fifth season, sat out the Hurricanes' exhibition with a lower-body injury and is also expected to play.
Miami vs. Florida Predictions
- Pick #1: Florida -5.5 (-108)
- Pick #2: Under 160.5 (-110)
PICK #1: Florida -5.5 (-108)
Florida's whole frontcourt is back: Thomas Haugh, the preseason SEC Player of the Year, Rueben Chinyelu, the reigning national defensive player of the year, and Alex Condon. Add Golden in his fifth season and the Gators return four starters and 81.8% of their scoring from a 27-8 team that led the country in rebounding margin last season at plus-14.7. Those same three bigs are the reason we trust that number to carry over.
Jai Lucas has already said what worries him. "I don't know if you've seen Florida," he said, "but those guys are huge. ... They fly and they go to the glass, so we've got to clean up our blockouts, our rebounds, our fouling." Golden's plan is the one he always brings: defend, win the glass and take care of the ball, which he says lets Florida win without shooting a high percentage. Miami has talent, but only Reneau, Shelton Henderson and Dante Allen are back from last season. Around them are a dozen newcomers, including Georgia transfer Somto Cyril and Villanova point guard Acaden Lewis.
At -108 the price implies a 51.9% chance, and we'll take Florida's continuity against a rebuilt rotation in a season opener. Florida also beat Miami 82-68 last season, though Miami's roster has changed a lot since.
What could sink it is Florida's bench. Its reserves were outscored 61-7 across two exhibitions, and Golden said they "didn't give us as big of a lift as we need." Miami scored 109 on Vanderbilt in its exhibition without Reneau, with Lewis putting up 23 points and 10 assists. If Fland can't go, Florida's guard rotation gets thinner and this pick gets weaker.
PICK #2: Under 160.5 (-110)
The game we expect for the spread should also stay under this total. Last season Florida scored 87.1 points and allowed 71.5 a game, a combined 158.6, and that team made just 31.2% of its threes, 315th in the country. The shooting hasn't looked fixed either: Florida shot 34% and went 4 of 29 from three in its exhibition loss to Baylor.
Miami has the size to make the paint hard work, too. Cyril led the SEC with 2.2 blocks a game at Georgia last season, and Lucas wants fewer fouls against Florida's bigs, which means fewer free throws. One preseason projection rates Miami's tempo 172nd in the country. The last meeting finished 82-68, 150 points, though both rosters are different now.
At -110 you're paying for a 52.4% chance, and this is the closer call of our two. The same preseason rating has Florida 25th in tempo and first in offensive efficiency, and Golden expects his team to be "very good in transition." Denzel Aberdeen and Urban Klavzar made 10 of 17 threes against Stetson. If Florida shoots like that, or Miami's guards bring their exhibition form, the total goes past 160.
