No. 2 Georgia (7-1, 5-1 SEC) visits No. 10 Ole Miss (6-2, 4-2) at 7:30 PM ET at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford. Georgia is a 3.5-point favorite and the total is 56.5. The teams split two meetings last season: Georgia won 43-35 in Athens, and Ole Miss came back from a 21-12 halftime deficit to win the Playoff quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl 39-34.

Ole Miss should keep this close at home, with Trinidad Chambliss carrying the offense. The Rebels are 4-0 in Oxford, and both of their losses came on the road, at Florida and Texas. Georgia is 0-2 in Oxford under Kirby Smart. Running back Kewan Lacy is out on the latest SEC availability report with a shoulder injury, so more of the offense, short touchdowns included, falls to Chambliss. He and Gunner Stockton should start at quarterback, and neither is on the latest availability report.

Georgia vs. Ole Miss Predictions

  • Pick #1: Trinidad Chambliss Anytime Touchdown (+105)
  • Pick #2: Ole Miss +3.5 (-110)

PICK #1: Trinidad Chambliss Anytime Touchdown (+105)

Chambliss has run for a touchdown in six of Ole Miss's eight games, with seven rushing scores in all: two at Florida and one each against Louisville, LSU, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Auburn. He was held out of the end zone only by Charlotte and in the loss at Texas, where he threw 52 passes. At +105 the price implies 48.8%, and he has scored in 75% of his games.

Georgia has been hard on running backs. Florida's Jadan Baugh ran 17 times for 38 yards against it. Quarterbacks have had more luck. In Georgia's last two games, Auburn's Byrum Brown ran 26 times for 115 yards and a touchdown in Athens, and Florida's Tramell Jones Jr. scored the Gators' only touchdown on a two-yard run. Chambliss ran seven times for 65 yards and a score against Auburn.

Lacy had five rushing touchdowns before he got hurt, and coach Pete Golding said, "We're not expecting to have him this week." Makhi Frazier and Shekai Mills-Knight split the carries against Auburn, so no one back owns the goal line, and Chambliss is the surest finisher Ole Miss has near the end zone.

What beats this is Georgia keeping Ole Miss out of the red zone, or the backs getting the short carries. Mills-Knight, Deuce Knight and Will Echoles all ran for scores against Auburn. If Chambliss doesn't start, the pick has no case.

PICK #2: Ole Miss +3.5 (-110)

Georgia is laying more than a field goal in a stadium where it hasn't won under Smart, against the team that beat it in the last meeting. One widely cited power index gives Georgia only a 55.5% chance to win, which is a lot closer to a coin flip than this spread. Ole Miss covers with any win or a loss by three or fewer, and -110 implies 52.4%.

Ole Miss scores 37.1 points a game, and Chambliss has thrown a touchdown pass in 21 straight games. Georgia's two closest SEC games were both decided by three points, a 20-17 win at Alabama and a 27-24 home loss to Auburn, and Stockton threw for 101 yards against Florida. The spread money is with us too: 52% of it is on Ole Miss from 41% of the bets, so the bigger tickets are on the home underdog while most bettors take Georgia.

Georgia's run game can still sink this. Ole Miss allows 148.9 rushing yards a game, Georgia ran for 217 against Florida, and only Auburn has scored more than 20 points on the Bulldogs. If Georgia grinds out an early lead and shortens the game, Ole Miss won't get enough possessions to catch up. This pick depends on Chambliss starting and playing the way he has at home.
