Arkansas (3-5, 1-4 SEC) visits Auburn (4-4, 2-4) at 12:45 PM ET at Jordan-Hare Stadium, and both teams are coming off lopsided losses. Arkansas fell 34-10 at home to Missouri. Auburn lost 45-15 at Ole Miss a week after a 38-17 home loss to LSU. Auburn is a 10.5-point favorite.

We think Auburn wins this on the ground and covers. Quarterback Byrum Brown leads the Tigers in rushing, and Arkansas gives up 153 rushing yards a game. The Razorbacks average 16.4 points in conference play and lost to Georgia, Texas A&M and Missouri by 24 or more. Arkansas will keep running anyway, and Auburn is last in the SEC against the run, now without two defensive starters, linebacker Bryce Deas and safety Sylvester Smith-Reed. Cam Settles can pile up yards in a loss against that front. Brown and KJ Jackson should start at quarterback, though neither school has confirmed it.

Arkansas vs. Auburn Predictions

  • Pick #1: Auburn -10.5 (-110)
  • Pick #2: Cam Settles 37+ Rushing Yards (-117)

PICK #1: Auburn -10.5 (-110)

Arkansas hasn't handled running quarterbacks, and Auburn's offense runs through one. Brown has 139 carries for 484 yards and seven touchdowns. Arkansas ranks 15th in the SEC against the run, and Texas A&M and Missouri both ran for more than 200 on it.

Arkansas also can't keep up on the scoreboard. The Razorbacks are last among Power Four teams at 19.6 points a game, and Missouri held them to 59 rushing yards on 36 carries. Their SEC losses to Georgia, Texas A&M and Missouri came by 28, 27 and 24. The bigger tickets are with Auburn too: 70% of the spread money, from only 45% of the bets.

Auburn's own record is what gives us pause. The Tigers have won by more than 10.5 once in eight games against FBS teams, 43-8 over Southern Miss, and they scored 15 and 17 in their last two. Those came against LSU and Ole Miss, though, and Arkansas has the lowest-scoring offense in the Power Four. Ryan Silverfield is 3-0 against Alex Golesh from their previous jobs, and Chris Marshall, Arkansas's top receiver, is probable after missing a game and a half. The -110 price translates to 52.4%.

PICK #2: Cam Settles 37+ Rushing Yards (-117)

Settles is the back Arkansas relies on now. Since the loss at Texas A&M he has run for 50 yards against Tennessee, 45 at Vanderbilt and 38 against Missouri, and he started that last game. The 38 came on 12 carries in a 24-point loss in which Arkansas ran for 59 yards as a team. Even with the game gone, the ball kept going to him.

Auburn allows 155.8 rushing yards a game, the most in the SEC, and Deas, who made eight tackles in each of his last three games, is out. Arkansas has a reason to run here, and this defense gives ground.

He has reached 37 yards in four of seven games this season. The misses were 11 yards on four carries at Texas A&M and two early games when he carried six and three times, before his role grew. Braylen Russell is the risk. He's probable after a single carry against Missouri, but Russell carried 4 times against Tennessee and 14 at Vanderbilt, and Settles cleared 37 in both. The -117 price implies 53.9%, and his recent workload says he's better than that.
