Basics of Sports Betting – Totals

Totals are another very popular bet type. With a Total bet, you are not betting on a winner of the game, you are betting on the Total score of the game. There are two options to bet on:

Over – A bet that the game score (combined score of both teams together) will be Over the Sportsbook’s forecasted score

Under - A bet that the game score (combined score of both teams together) will be Under the Sportsbook’s forecasted score

When reading a Total. The number without a plus or minus is the line. You have the option to place a bet that the score will be Over or Under that line. Alongside the Total is the odds. Some people call this the juice, the margin or the vig. This represents what you will be paid out the payout for the bet.
