Odds as of Oct 20, 7:08 AM ET

Vegas has won three straight and sits at 8-2-0, mostly by outscoring people. The Golden Knights have 42 goals in 10 games, the third-highest rate in the league, against 24 allowed. They scored 17 in the last three alone: 5-2 at Nashville, then 6-2 over Calgary and 6-2 over Pittsburgh at home. The power play is converting 27.8% of the time.

Tampa Bay is 6-2-0, but that record splits hard. The Lightning are 5-0-0 at home and 1-2-0 on the road, and this is the first stop of a three-game trip that runs through Colorado and Utah. They don't give up many shots, 23.0 a game and fourth-fewest in the league. The problem is what happens to the ones that get through. Andrei Vasilevskiy, the expected starter, is 4-2-0 with a 2.53 goals-against average and an .886 save percentage, and he has been under .890 in each of his last three starts. The penalty kill is at 75.0%, 22nd in the league. Tampa Bay did win both meetings last season, 2-1 in Tampa and 6-3 in Vegas. The Vegas net is a choice between Carter Hart and Adin Hill, and none of these picks hinge on which one plays. Both teams last played Saturday. Puck drop is Tuesday at 10:30 PM ET at T-Mobile Arena.

We expect Vegas to win this at home on the strength of its first power-play unit. Both picks are forwards from that unit, which means they share one risk: if the Vegas attack goes quiet, both go with it.

Lightning vs. Golden Knights Predictions

  • Pick #1: Mark Stone Over 0.5 Points (-170)
  • Pick #2: Jack Eichel Over 0.5 Assists (-135)

PICK #1: Mark Stone Over 0.5 Points (-170)

This is the more expensive pick of the two and the one we trust most. Stone has a point in 8 of 10 games this season, and his longer record says the same thing. Last season he put up 73 points in 60 games and had at least one in 43 of them, roughly 72%. The price here implies 63.0%.

He has seven goals and seven assists so far. That includes a hat trick against Calgary, and he has three points in each of the last two games, against Calgary and Pittsburgh. He plays right wing beside Jack Eichel and Ivan Barbashev and works the first power-play unit, where he has a power-play point in five of his 10 games. Against a penalty kill that has let a quarter of its chances through, that's a second way to cash. His only blanks were against Anaheim and Minnesota.

Health is the worry with Stone. He missed 22 games last season and had a five-game run without a point in March. A tight game where Vasilevskiy looks like his old self is how this one loses.

PICK #2: Jack Eichel Over 0.5 Assists (-135)

Eichel has 13 assists in 10 games. He's set one up in 7 of them, with two assists against Pittsburgh, Calgary, Anaheim and Chicago and three in Seattle, and six of his 18 points have come on the power play.

The price works out to 57.4%. Over a full season last year he had 63 assists in 74 games and an assist in 42 of them, so this season's pace is a step up, and the matchup gives him room to keep it going. Vegas is scoring 4.2 goals a game and gets a Tampa Bay goalie at .886 and a penalty kill ranked 22nd. When these teams met in Vegas last November, Eichel had two assists even in a 6-3 loss.

He isn't automatic. Before the last two two-assist nights he went three straight games without one, against Los Angeles, Minnesota and Nashville. Vasilevskiy also has a decent career record against Vegas: 8-5-3 with an .897 save percentage, per the Lightning.
